Play date in a Care home!
Aggie's Grannies www.aggiesgrannies.co.uk brings together the very young and the very old by helping pre-school groups to form lasting relationships with elderly care facilities.
This can be any kind of pre-school group including groups of mums so -
Instead of hosting a play date or going to someone's house for one why not have a play date in a care home?
Everyone is frustrated about the isolation and loneliness suffered by some of the oldest members in our society, which of course could one day be us! This is a way that you can help. All you need to do is get a group of mums together and contact your local elderly care facility for some regular visits.

Also if you'd like to help in any other way we are looking for some committed volunteers with either
Strong administrative/organisational skills
PR and/or fundraising background to help us secure some funding
Anyone interested in being involved
You will preferably be in easy reach of east London. You will like old people... And very young people! obviously

yes actually that's we've started.
firstly it was with scallywags and silkcourt care home from where we've springboarded.
now we are getting up and running - noah's ark with sundial day care centre and columbia market nursery with mandela house sheltered housing.
there is also priscilla wakefield nursing home in seven sisters with the earlsmead sure start centre next door.
we are in the process of approaching more and any suggestions would be muchly appreciated.
also we have just realised that we were a little overwhelmed so I though I'd post for volunteers or other mums that might like to go in to care homes for visits.

Have you written to nurseries and children's centres around Newham and Tower Hamlets?

hi yes it was - with june brown from eastenders!
and we had such a great response from that we thought that we should post here and see if other mums are interested in reaching out.
some of the elderly we go and see have no visitors and of course they love the little ones. it's also great for the children to be around older people - which sadly doens't happen much these days. we're becoming more and more segregated! we have this view that perhaps children will grow up a little more respectful of their elders if they were exposed to them more.
all you have to do is approach a care home/nursing home near you and ask if you can take your kids once in awhile. it doens't have to be every week, every month would be ok. just getting to know them is great. helping them to be part of the community. seeing them smile and your kiddies smile with all that attention is lovely.
let me know if you need help doing it as i can contact the homes, tell them about how great it is and introduce you.

Are you the same woman on the BBC documentary a little while ago?
Sounds like a really lovely idea, would love to hear more about how to go about doing this??
