We're looking to get a tiny runaround for my dh to drive to work (5 mile commute each way, country roads) and occasional business journeys.
We want something with low road tax and insurance costs and high mpg and have a budget of about 2500.
I was thinking maybe a smart or a renault clio... any thoughts?

Fiesta, Micra, too. I have seen Smart Cars within your budget.

Everyone I know who has bought a Renault regrets it.

Toyota Aygo maybe? "Rated by Warranty Direct as the 4th Most Reliable Car of the past 15 years based on Warranty Direct claims statistics."

We've got a couple of relatives who have renault clios and they've had no problems and have done upwards of 100,000 miles on them, so thought they might have escaped the renault curse!
toyota aygo looks good but there don't seem to be ANY nationwide in budget!

Toyota are good. My Yaris is worth approx £1500 so should get an older Aygo for that.

I can't find one any where near budget- this one in bristol is the closest to 2.5k within 50 miles of us!
