Group 2 car seat with 5 point harness?

Hi all - I'm wondering if you can help. My son is tall/heavy for his age and is 38kg now at 2yr 9mths and so we'll need to move him out of his current group 1 seat and into a group 2 as the weight limit on his current one is 40kg.

I can only find booster style seats that use a normal seatbelt to secure the child and wonder if anyone knows of any seats that use a harness past 40kgs and I still feel he is a little young to be using the seat belt alone.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Are you sure about his weight?, if a boy is on the 99.6th centile he doesn't reach 36kg until he is 7. It may be that he doesn't put on those last two kgs for a long time, giving you longer than you think in the current seat.

5 point harnesses are not tested over a certain weight, that's your problem.
Seat belts are considered safer once the child reaches that weight, regardless of whether the child is mature/sensible enough to just have a seat belt
Are you sure he's not 38 lbs?

Do you mean he is 38lb (not kg)?

My ds was around that weight at the same age. The advice we were given is that 5point harnesses aren't safety tested beyond 40lb (18kg) so he will need to move into the next stage seat when this weight is reached, which is a high backed booster.

We went with the Britax kidfix but alsp considered maxi cosi rodi fix.

My 2.8 year old is 18.1kg so needs a new seat too. There do only seem to be two options. The brittax two way elite at £220 and the junior traveller at £550. Mil thinks he will be fine in a seatbelt and high back booster but I just know he will wriggle out the first chance he gets and we have only just stopped him trying to open doors and windows while In the car so I have decided on the two way elite Sad just hoping the price is worth it.

Is there any chance you could take a picture of the two way elite in a car nork? I can't find any online and Ds will be forward facing. (Sorry to hijack thread Blush)

Hi all - thanks so much for all your replies. Yes it appears pregnancy brain has had it's wicked way with me again this morning. He is indeed 38lbs/17.2kgs - he's a heavy lump but not THAT heavy!

I know it might be a while before he puts on those last 2lb (at least I'm hoping) but wanting to get some research done before we get there.

Both the options mentioned sound very pricey but then some of the isofix boosters are £150+ and it's not something I would want to skimp on so will take a look.

Thanks all.
