Car seats

Is isofix worth it?

My new pram came with a free car seat which obviously fits in the car with the main belt, but our car has isofix. Would it be worth buying an isofix base or are they a waste of money x

Personally I think they are great, saves all the in and out with seatbelt and v safe too.. Also u can get a good price when selling on later

They are a bit safer than belting in - difficult to put the seat in wrong for example - but it is an extra cost. Children are safe if belted in correctly and the seat fits your car. I know Maxi Cosi has a car checker on their website to check that a particular seat type is right for your car.

Should add. We've always just used the belt and it isn't a faff. You don't need to unbuckle the belt every time. Just pull the belt out and fit it round the seat. Takes about ten seconds.

I loved mine so quick in and out the car. My baby doesn't go in any other cars, so have never just used the seat belt.
many people just use the seat belt and put the seat in different cars. Depends if you want to spend the money really.

Hmmm I'll see if I can get one locally and have someone got the base for us. Do all isofix bases fit all cars with isofix?

You would be better going in to halfords or online to see what base would fit your car, then which base fits which car seat.
I stupidly bought a maxi cosy car seat that I liked and got good reviews and a base to fit it, but it wasn't a family fix base and the car seat wasn't the type that fitted on the pram. So read things carefully.

I hate isofix on my Britax Max Fix seat. It's so hard to fit - the arms always retract before it clicks in - and is a killer on my back. The isofix base and maxi cosi infant carrier were much easier.

Have had Isofix/Isofit with both children and they are extremely easy to use and fit..

However have never had any luck selling them on despite being in pristine condition and not involved in any collisons! So don't bank on this as an option!

We have used them in a variety of cars with no difficulty.
