Car seats

Rear facing car seat help please!

I am looking to buy my sons next car seat. He is 8 wo and currently in a maxi cosi cabriofix with an isofix family base thingy.

I want a rear facing one (well, may need one if the law is going to change, but whatever, I want a rf one).

The thing is I am soooo confused. I am looking at a safety 1st primo fix 0+/1...what is this like? I definitely want isofix.

I am not bothered how much it costs, I know that they are more expensive, I am looking at them early to help spread the cost.

Any advice, recommendations or links much appreciated! The simpler the better, my baby brain is mush.

(For some reason, with ds1 I didn't struggle like this, so I am wondering if it is the rear facing thing that is specifically confusing me, or the fact that ds1 is 7, so it was years ago that I did this!)

Thanks!

Go to the In Car Safety Centre in Milton Keynes or to Paul Stride in York (and if you can't get to either of those places look at their websites and ring them, both very very helpful)

Besafe, the only way to go. Our daughter was 3 today & has loved hers. She is exceptionally tall, so we're looking for a new one (her legs are bunched up), but our son will be in it soon.

safety 1st primo fix 0+/1 probably isnt a extended rear facing seat.

Look at www.rearfacing.co.uk for stockists.

Isofix isnt safer and can actually limit your seat choices.

I have the Axkid Kidzofix from

www.securatot.co.uk/axkid-kidzofix

they do a seatbelt only version too but I like the self tightening tethers.

In isofix mode (esp when fully reclined) it takes up more room than seat belt plus only goes to 18kg compared to 25kg in seatbelt mode. For now we are using it in seatbelt mode- its solid as a rock in our car with seat belt.

I also have the maxi cosi mobi in our second car. A good seat but I prefer the one above!

I'm guessing your current seat will last til around 12-15 months, so you can get a group 1 rf seat rather than a 0+/1 seat.

We have used the Kiss 2 by Klippan and I LOVE it!
My ds was still quite young when he outgrew his maxi cosi cabrio fix and I was looking for something we could still lift him in and out of the car with like the infant carriers. It has a handle like a suitcase handle that you can pull the inner seat along while he slept. The inner seat fits in a frame to become a larger seat for toddlers.
My son is nearly 3 and is now almost 18kg so we''ll have to find something else. However my 4 year old dd is 14 kg and still fits comfortably in it.
It has 3 positions and we still use position 2 for long journeys and position 3 which is an upright position for day to day journeys. Their heads do not roll forward in position 2 when they sleep.
To summarise, I believe it's the next best thing to an infant carrier, just bigger.

The Axkid is a great brand, they are also lauching a new Axkid Minikid in 2 weeks (details are on Securatot website now!) this is a non isofix but it still has the great self tightening tether straps ! its rear facing only but passes the Swedish Plus Test !
All the Group 1 Axkid seats will rear face up to 25kgs whereas most other rear facing seats only rear face up to 18kgs.
