Anyone use an Extended Rear Facing Seat

(18 Posts)

And live in the North East of England?

If so, do you get any/many comments?
Where did you purchase your ERF seat?

Dd is 8mo and still plenty of.room in her rocker tot seat however I want to get an ERF seat whenever sje grows out of this one. I have never seen one round my way, no one seems to know anything about them, and anyone who I talk to about it just seems to think dd will get bored (how, when she will have a clear as day view out of the back window is beyond me)

I'm not in the North but we use one.

Most people don't comment. I don't care what they think anyway.

We have one - not a problem, Dd loves it at 2.4 still, she is tall but has plenty of leg room, we have the Besafe IziKid. got ours in croydon, so not much help, sorry! For what it is worth, she was in her maxi cosi till she was 14months...

She doesn't get bored, it makes no difference as far as I can tell. I have a mirror so I can see her, she has a tablet attached to the back headrest with cartoons on it etc for long journeys, toys etc - which don't fall down on the floor as much rearfacing, it's all good!

Our only dilemma now is what to get for her in my parents car, as ours is a pain in the bum to move, and we cannot afford another rearfacing, not considering they will barely use it except for short trips.

Not exactly NE but we went up to York to Paul Stride to buy ours.

I really couldn't give a monkeys what anyone else thinks. I've made the safest choice for my DD and that's my decision. I have seen a few cars with ERF seats in driving around my town recently and met another mum through NCT who has one too. I wrote an article on car safety for the local NCT newsletter a year or so ago so hope more people have one round here as a result

I live in teh NE and have a BeSafe from Paul Stride in York who I think are the only suppliers in the region! Easy to get to though as they're on the edge of the city and very near one of the P&R places so you can pop into the city for the day afterwards!

No one's ever commented. Why would they?

I just wondered if anyone had said anything as whenever I mentoon erf seats. I get "but they wont be able to see", "what do they do with their legs?"

Just don't mention it.

It's one of those things you learn to keep your mouth shut about as it can put some people on the defensive.

Occasionally I get someone who sees me putting my DD's in the car and they say "oh, they're facing backwards" and I just smile and talk about something else.

Yes I am in Newcastle and we have erf , I don't know anyone else who dies though, but no one has commented. We also went to Paul stride, who were great.

Ah I see what you mean, yes on the only occassion I mentioned to someone that I was going to York to get a RF group 1 seat they told me all the reasons why they disagreed (including that they felt facing forward would reduce fussing and the chances of crash in the first place - which might be true for their child although doesn't account for other drivers).

Whereas when I noticed my friend with the same seats had them and asked about them, I was interested in the safety data she talked about ... but that was before I bought mine so no cognitive dissonance to worry about!

But no one's ever actually commented upon seeing mine that I can recall.

We got one for DS after hearing about it on and researching - he seems to like it, he has been in it for about 3 weeks now. It is a Recaro Polaric. It is a bit of a massive beast (not sure how you would get on with it if you had a small car), but it is very plush and DS looks very comfy in it!

We got it online from a website called 'kiddies kingdom' I think. They were really good - we had to wait a couple of days because they order them from Recaro as they get the orders individually as it is 'specialist' hmm, but once they got it they dispatched and we got it the next day.

No one has really noticed it yet, but tbh, if they do (and have kids in a ff seat) I will not chuff on about it too much, perhaps just say we heard that it was safer and leave it at that.

yep I also use two ERF seats for my two DSs. My eldest is starting school on Friday, and he loves his ERF seat (Besafe and a KISS)- and can answer questions himself when friends have asked why he is rearfacing!!!

I've never had an issue with questions - once you've done your research and seen how great the visibility and leg room is with these seats (and of course the safety!!!!) it's amazingly easy to answer anyone smile And if anyone does challenge you, you can just leave the conversation feeling happy and content that you've made an evidenced based decision for your child that could have a monumental impact on their safety for the next 4 years smile xx

Incarsafety sell them online.

Mamas and Papas are bringing out a new ERF seat soon, apparently September. It was meant to be earlier this year, but it was delayed. It can rear face until 18KGs and it front faces as well, swivelling on the base, which is ISOFIX. It's meant to be smaller than current ERF seats. I was told about it by a lady at our local independent nursery store who stock and fit other ERF seats, apparently her boos saw it at a baby show and was raving about it.

Some info here: (the lady in the M&P shop didn't have a clue what I was on about but rang customer services who confirmed November)
