Car seats

Is there a car seat safety comparison/info website?

Am rather safety conscious and will spend more if I know it's safer and will provide greater protection. Can anyone advise if such a website exists. Until now we've had a maxi-cosi pebble which has a good reputation, and protected 2 little twins I know in a horrific car accident - apart from having glass on them, which was blown off in the hospital, they were unscatched.

no, as far as I know there is not.
There is Which? but that, as you may know, is not based purely on safety as it's a consumer report and as such the safest seats aren't always the top of their list

if it's a stage 1 seat you're looking for (9 months upwards) then have you looked into extended rear-facing seats? they're much, much safer than forward facing seats

Copied from another thread for you:

If you want a good independent opinion on the safest car seat for your car, the ladies at the Essex County Council In Car Safety Team are extremely helpful. Having just looked, we actually bought our car seat from one of their recommended fitters and we were extremely happy - she was, indeed, passionate about car seat safety and has made an ethical decision not to sell car seats through the internet as she would not be able to fit them.

Thanks for the advice. Am actually looking for 0+/1 as is for grandparent's car and don't want to have to buy another one in 6 months' time.
