Hi

I'm currently expecting dc2 and getting car seat overload and confusion! When dd was a baby (she's now 4 and in a hbb) I hadn't even heard of erf seats Angry (the lack if information in this country is shocking) hence she was in a maxi cosi axiss in my car and a nania that we bought in France after an explosive sick incident in dh's, it was easier for us to have 2 seats as I work nights and I'm rarely home before dh leaves for school/nursery. The Axiss will have reached the end of its' 6 years by the time this baby is 2 so we will need a new seat. I'm looking into rear facing but my needs are quite specific:

  • should we just buy a group 0-1 seat straight off or use a carrier and get a new seat at 12/15 months depending on when the baby outgrows the carrier, the law change may affect us as dd was long and thin - ready by 12 months height wise to change seats

  • are erf seats awkward to move? We couldn't afford to buy 2 but definitely needed 2 last time round, in theory we could keep the nania (stage 0-1) in the second vehicle and just keep it rear facing for as long as possible

  • since dd was in a car seat we've bought a campervan, there are seats in the back but no isofix and the seats look too narrow for a car seat - we would have to use the front seat (no airbag) - so isofix and front tethers are out.

We are in south Wales so no where near any experts on this. Can anyone recommend a seat that is reasonably priced?

hi, i have the hi-way 2 that i got when ds2 was about 5/6 months. it is suitable from 0-25kgs and tbh i wish i'd have bought it from birth, but didn't know about it at the time. i had to leave the baby seat in the car anyway as i had bad spd post natal and couldn't carry it!

it is light and easy to move. has a recline( you can get a block to recline it even more) and deep wings so their head doesn't fall down when they sleep.

wrt the campervan you could use it in the front as the tethers still go round the back of the seat and come underneath the seat to the front iykwim.

belted is as safe as isofix when rf as long as it's fitted properly, and it's not as hard as people make out!

there are videos on you tube showing how to install it.

:)

Thanks for the advice. Another question - the reason we went for the axiss was the swivel function - my back isn't great so it made life much easier. How do you find getting your dc in and out of the erf seats? Are they able to climb in themselves when old enough?

no problem. :) i find them easier as the door opens out to give you full width with th rf seat unlike the ff seats where you have to stand in the small bit of the door iykwim. mine can climb in no problem.

Thanks. The TWE seems to be the most recommended seat and the price is reasonable so it looks like we'll use a carrier/the nania rf until 15 months and then look into that from then.

Thanks for all your help Smile

Just be careful with the Nania 0+1 seat, it only rear faces to 10kg not 13kg like an normal infant carrier or the first class!

Do you know which model only rf to 10kg just? We bought ours in France, I can't remember the name of our particular model Blush. The instructions are in the attic with the seat, I guess I'll have to dig them out!

I think all Nania rf to 10kg then ff from 9kg -18kg. Sorry!
