we still have him in a high backed booster as he falls asleep on journeys and it helps him rest his head.

are there any reasons he shouldn't be in one? ie is it now more dangerous to be in one as opposed to just using the seatbelt?

By my calculations he is nearly 32kg>. We have a kidfix and it goes up to 36kg and 150cm as long as it still fits in the car. My child is 10 and still in it. I will be keeping her in it until she reaches 150cm as car seat belts are designed for people of at least that height. It Germany and Ireland last time I looked they have to be on at least a booster until then of 18 whichever is first. I want to keep mine having side impact protection until they are big enough for the cars own to work properly

No, and if it's one with good side protection then he's almost certainly better off in it for as long as he is comfortable and happy to be in one. I have a DC who is well over the height limit and goes without a seat when in someone else's car, but is in highback in ours (most of his car travel). Handy also if he sleeps and lolls.

We are in Ireland and the recommendation is to be on a booster at least until 150cms. My ds2 is 10 and 140cms, he is still in his HBB because I feel its safer than the booster cushion on its own, and he is a slight child so fits well in the HBB still. Ds1 was a broader child at that age and couldnt fit his shoulders comfortably in the HBB so he was on a booster cushion from age about 9 onwards until he hit 150cms at age almost 12.

All booster seats in the EU are tested to 36kg and no higher. The seat DD1 is in is imported from USA (it's legally sold in the shops here) and in the EU the manual states is only suitable to 80lbs/36kg, it's 100lbs/45kg in the USA. Same seat, different regs.

If she still fits in the seat heightwise at 37kg I'll still use it as it's been tested as safe at a higher weight but the EU doesn't have a 36-45kg category so couldn't pass that here.
