Car seats

Car seats in France

PIL live in France and we visit them once a year for a fortnight. Previously we have taken our own car seat on the plane but we are going by train this year and they are picking us up from the station. They are willing to go and buy a seat that is suitable for DS to use but I don't know anything about the regulations regarding seats in France and neither do they!
DS will be 2.5, he's currently 91st centile (13.5 kg) for weight and 75th for height(88cm).At home he's in a Izi combi isofix RF.
Any recommendations?

could you order the same one you have/one you're happy with on the internet and get it delivered to france? we have this issue whenever we visit my in-laws who have a place in italy on top of living in ireland. i think it's finally solved now (two dds, carseat each in each place...), but it seemed that every time they bought a carseat they would bring it with them to italy and which was great the next time we were in italy, but then a whole saga ensued involving which seat to buy now.

the upshot is that they each have 3 of the same carseat, one in the uk, one in ireland and one in france...

not much help, sorry, but i feel your pain...

I would love to have another Be Safe but at £300 I think they might be a bit Shock and it's not really feasible financially for us to spend that either on a seat that is going to be used probably a maximum of 10 times a year.
I guess I'm also wondering if the same rules apply re high backed boosters and 5 point harnesses etc. I don't really think he's ready for one of those yet but have no idea what they sell out there.

Have you thouht about one of the 1-2-3 seats?

Kiddy (there are 2 9-36kgs ones but cant remember the name of them) They get realy good reviews and are ment to be next best thing to rf.
Britax Evolva 123
Graco Nautilus
Recaro young sport

These are all 9-36kg seats. If you dont mind dd facing forwards on these ocasions they will last you out untill she no longer needs a seat.

you could get one sent there or ask pil to look and see if they are sold there.

Kiddy seats are 'Guardian pro' and 'Comfort pro' you use the impact sheild untill 18kg then use as a regular hbb. Im pretty certain they are approved for use in France.

here is a useful site. It is the same as in the uk I can't find the site I saw it but I don't think you can have children in the front. The best seat to get would properly be the kiddy seat that goes from 9mth to 12 it uses a impact cushion so will go in more car no buckle crunch. I would get them to get it of get one delivered to them. It is also very light.

Thanks all that has been really helpful, I have emailed the details to PIL so they can decide what to do!
