Travelling with children in the car

Are you planning to travel with children in your car? Remember, in the UK all children under the age of 12 years must be in a child restraint unless they are taller than 135cm (or taller than 150cm in some other European countries).
Take a few extra minutes to check that their child restraint is adjusted correctly to their size.
Remember to pull harnesses nice and snug (refresh your knowledge from the instruction leaflet provided with the car seat).

TRL is an independent research organisation, wholly owned by the Transport Research Foundation, which is non-profit making.
The Child Safety Centre aims to save children's lives, through the provision of good advice, which is based on evidence based research, gained from scientific studies.
We also advise the UK Department for Transport and the European Commission

Just an interesting point - on your website and the link you provided a while ago, although you kind of hinted about internal decapitation from forward facing restraints, you don't actually mention the benefits that can be gained from extended rearfacing. Given that this is now a recommended position from UK Dr's in the British Medical Journal, i think it would be really important / great if you could include this vital information to help inform parents.......

Having researched the safety of children in vehicles for over 35 years, we have on our web site, what we consider to be best practice when it comes to restraining children in vehicles.
We have an in-depth knowledge of accidents and the types of injuries sustained by children in a collision, which has been gathered over many years both in the UK and overseas.
Our recommendation that children travel in rear facing seats up until the age of 18 months is based on sound evidence based research, and this is reflected in our free best practice guide on our web site.
