Car seats

Isofix Group 2/3 seats

I need to get a new seat soon for DD2 who is just turning 4. We have replaced both cars in the past year [skint emoticon!] and now both have Isofix which isn't somethin we've ever had before. So a few questions about Isofix, particularly with reference to Group 2/3 booster seats:

  1. Is it easy to switch an Isofix seat from one car to another? I'm assuming it will be a little more work than it usually is with a booster where you just pick it up and chuck it into the other car?

  1. Can you use an Isofix seat in a non-Isofix car (for occasional use by grandparents etc)?

  1. Are the Isofix seats really worth the extra cash at this age (4 and upwards)?

  1. Does anyone have any experience of the Brittax Kidfix Isofix, which is the seat we are looking at. DD1 has a Maxi Cosi Rodi, and it's okay, but not fantastic.

Yes to all you questions. Issofix is not any safer in the group but is easter as it is more solid for the child to climb into and means the buckle doesn't slip under the seat.

It is safer when the child is not in it as you don't have to remember to strap in it.

isofix seat also have a better recline.

We have kidfix car seats have found them well made and solid

We got a kidfix at the weekend for 4 old DN, who is now living with us. Its lovely, realy comfortable, solid in the car so when he climbs in and out it stays still! We went out on a day trip today and he slept in it on way home, his head stayed back and he looked comfy.

Its easy to switch between cars. You just line up the bars and push till it clicks (takes seconds).

The isofix bars slide into slots at back of it for when using it in a non isofix car (great for dhs pick up truck).

Isofix is good as they recline more than the non isofix ones so if your dc is still likely to fall asleep in the car i would highly recomend it, as it keeps their head from falling forward away from the saftey of the side impact protection.

Oh blimey - clearly I have a lot to learn. DD1 is 8 now, and it has never once occurred to me that I should belt the booster in when she's not in it Blush!

Do the isofix HBB have the extra leg as the younger seats do or not? I've tried looking on halfords/argos/mothercare sites and can't tell. We found that the additional price of the bases was not clear when researching the previous seats!

Thanks Moving.

My husband read somewhere that the isofix is not actually any safer in this age group as the initial reason for the introduction of isofix was to reduce the instance of incorrectly installed car seats.

I kind of think that the weight of the child helps to anchor the car seat.
