Car seats

Car seats & 3 doors do they ever work?

Dh has a freelander and it's not particularly easy to put dd3s car seat in the back. If we leave the seat in I can slide her in but it involves me climbing in tha back & leaving the others waiting outside which isn't going to be pleasant in winter or easy in a busy place.

Whilst I try & persuade dh to change cars any tips?

Does DD's seat have a separate base that you leave fixed in the car?

Only in my car. No isofix in his. That would have solved the problem.

It's going to be even harder in next stage seat as they get bigger and as she gets heavier. Just need to convince dh!

I find 3 doors esier when dealing with a car seat that I have to fasten. I am only 5 foot tall, so in a 5 door when I have to stretch across in can sometimes be very difficult. I find 3 doors much easier as I stand in the footwell and face the seat to fasten it.

I have had several 3 door cars in the time DD has been in car seats.

I'm only 5 ft too and currently doing this by climbing into middle seat & sliding her in. Dh does the pram &dds have to stand & wait for me to get out again.

You can get bases for some seats that can be held in place with a seatbelt. For example, the Maxi Cosi Easybase comes in two versions, Isofix and seat belt.

We have a brittax seat. Maybe the threat of buying a new seat & base might help dh think!

Do you have the Britax baby-safe isofix base in your car? if you do then you could just get the baby-safe belted base for his car.

I always had car seats that stayed in the car at all times purely because getting them in and out would have been an almighty hassle.

It ought to be easier once you get to the next stage I would have thought as you'll be leaving the seat in the car and just taking DD in and out.

The problem is getting her into a rear facing one I have to get in next to her leaving other dds stood outside until I'm done. This will still be a problem with the next stage.

Not sure what sort of base I have nocake will check.
