Car seats

Can/where do I sell on a car seat?

Forgive me this is my first post on here so am not sure of the form...

I've got a baby car seat that I no longer need - can I sell it? will anyone buy a second hand car seat? I'm not sure I would.

Are there place's that will buy them to refurbish? Or should I just donate it somewhere?

Ta in advance

Because of the risks of being sued should there be an issue with the carseats, I don't think there is a company or organisation that will accept 2nd seats for sale..

However, there is always the opportunity to freecycle it, donate it or to sell it yourself in the free ads.

nonsense. e-bay sells loads. have sold car seats in fab condition there myself.

I doubt anybody would sue Hmm

If you want to pass it on and are sure it's in good condition, the best option is probably to find a friend/family member who can use it - perhaps even as a second carseat for a grandparent's car etc?

You could ask at your local children's centre to see whether they know someone who could use it. Or perhaps your local household waste tip has a recycle type shop? Ours does, not sure whether they accept car seats or not.

Other than that, yes you can sell them on ebay.

Perhaps I didn't phrase this properly! I don't doubt that there are carseats on sale second hand on Ebay and suchlike, it is just that when I was trying to get rid of mine, I wasn't able to do it through 2nd hand shops and the reason I was given was because they were unwilling to take on the risk of being sued should there have been an issue with the car-seat! I eventually freecycled it to a woman who was most likely going to sell it on in a boot sale ...!!

I might just have a very thin skin, but when I suggested to another poster looking for a carseat for their visitors, I was flamed for suggesting asking for one on freecycle or looking on ebay as there was no guarantee that the seat was safe!!!

Personally I think the commercial sale of second hand car seats should be banned.

I would also like local papers not to run ads.

I have no problem with people passing on seats to friends and families but I would like a scheme where these seats could be checked by a qualified fitter that they actually fit properly.

Have asked around friends and family but most are at the wrong stage.

Thinking the children's centre is a good plan.

Not sure how manageable or sustainable banning the resale of car seats would be. And as we don't have a car it would be really difficult to manage having someone properly fit our car seats every time we hired a car or got a lift from a friend.

I like how feisty the discussion got, so very quickly, is this normal for on here?

Thanks for you thoughts though : )

Gosh the replies were not fiesty just banter- you should check out Am I being unreasonable topic for fiesty!

I hadnt considered about those without car.

Maybe what we need is a scheme thats shows parents how to check fitted properly- what problems can occur with short belts, buckle crunch etc.....
