Anyone lucky enough to be away?

TheFallenNinja Sat 17-Aug-13 08:04:41

I wish. Back garden for me.

Gracie990 Sat 17-Aug-13 08:21:20

Are you pitching in it? :-)

EasyMark Sat 17-Aug-13 17:36:44

Im going to Red Shoot camping site in Ringwood New Forest. Anyone else?

poorbuthappy Sat 17-Aug-13 17:47:51

We are away over the bank holiday.
Would be lovely (and naive) to think the sun will last that long. grin

NoComet Sat 17-Aug-13 17:51:10

Suns would be good, we have a garden to play/sit and MN in and we could do with another BBQ.

Waswondering Sat 17-Aug-13 17:52:32

I can tell you why ... My children return to their Scottish schools on Tuesday! Enjoy.

We're off to Scotland next week but the week after we're going here

Can't wait!

IpsyUpsyDaisyDo Sat 17-Aug-13 18:04:37

We're off to Budemeadows campsite in Cornwall on Monday for 10 days - we've had our fingers and toes crossed for weeks that the nice weather would last grin. I don't think the temps are going to match the highs in the south east (where we love), but if it doesn't rain we won't complain smile

We have just booked Nayburn Lock in York for Mon-Weds when we saw the forecast. I am very happy smile

Are you going somewhere nice?

IpsyUpsyDaisyDo Sat 17-Aug-13 18:05:12

Love = live

CMOTDibbler Sat 17-Aug-13 20:39:01

We're off to Wadebridge for 4 nights this week - can't wait as its a small site with a pool so hopefully the kids will just be in and out of the pool

Lucycat Sat 17-Aug-13 20:42:05

Where are these golden suns? Not in the NW of England I bet as I need to wash my sleeping bags & clean the groundsheet before going off again please.
Mind you it would be nice not to be experiencing 'bastard syphilitic rain' to quote slubber smile

bobblypop Sat 17-Aug-13 20:43:19

typical.we're just back from a week of torrential rain which was grim sad

WhoNickedMyName Sat 17-Aug-13 22:17:10

We're going to Devon tomorrow, staying there for a week. Forecast for Tuesday onwards looks great grin.

duchesse Sat 17-Aug-13 22:25:53

We live in Devon. Just having a couple of days of rain but otherwise has been non-stop sunshine and summer since the 3rd week in June. It's fab and frankly, we deserve it after last year! grin

KnappShappeyShipwright Sat 17-Aug-13 22:34:54

Forest of Dean for seven nights for us from Monday. Like duchesse I think we're owed it after last summer. Hanging on to the tent in 50mph winds was not my idea of a good time.

MrsMcEnroe Sat 17-Aug-13 22:37:16

We're going to Eweleze this Weds-Thurs, can't wait. Bring on the big fat smiley suns!! Spent 4 days at the Dower House campsite in Thetford Forest (Norfolk) last week and I highly recommend it.

Pixel Sat 17-Aug-13 23:42:31

We are off tomorrow to Ringwood area. It's blowing a gale outside atm so I'm rather worried. Don't mind so much putting the tent up in the rain because we bought a flysheet first model for that reason, but wind is a different matter!

MummyPigsFatTummy Sun 18-Aug-13 00:20:27

We are at eweleaze at the moment Mrsmcenroe. Lovely yesterday. Rain and high winds today. Poles snapping evrywhere. Just calming now. Looking good for next week though so have a great time!

MaryMotherOfCheeses Sun 18-Aug-13 00:22:30

West Wales.

Purely on the basis of all those suns smile

Gracie990 Sun 18-Aug-13 07:59:57

We are camping mon- Friday. We are lucky it was booked months ago. We have been very lucky with weather this year ( touch wood) three very hot camping trips.

I would love to chase the sun, but then everywhere good is booked. <Dilema.>

Happy camping everyone.

FourArms Sun 18-Aug-13 08:52:47

We're going on Thu for the BH. Would love a 4th sunny camping trip to round off the year. smile

DumSpiroSpero Sun 18-Aug-13 09:33:33

Am having to pray it will last into next week are we're off to Cornwall for 5 nights on the Bank hol Monday.

AngelsWithSilverWings Sun 18-Aug-13 09:44:06

We are off to Long Meadow in The New Forest tomorrow. Packed the car yesterday and can't wait to go!

We usually camp in May and June when the nights are still vey cold so I'm trying to get my head around possibly being too hot in my sleeping bag!

Just wish we had booked a week rather than 4 nights but when I phoned to try and extend our stay they were fully booked.

To the people going to the New Forest, what are your plans for the week? What do you reccommend we visite when there?

We have a 4yo boy and a 1.5 yo girl!

We have tickets to peppa pig world and then 3 days to fill grin

AngelsWithSilverWings Sun 18-Aug-13 13:16:16

Never been before friends have suggested a couple of places to go in The New Forest.

We are planning to visit Moors Valley Country park one day, do a day of cycling around another day and then a visit to Lymington on our last day.

Going to avoid Peppa Pig world and hope there are not too many signs advertising it's existence to our 5 year old!

EasyMark The Dorset heavy horse farm park is great for pre-schoolers. Our dd groomed a tiny pony and drove a real tractor (with the farm lady driving it really!). It was cheap as well compared to PP world and we thought it was great.

Just back from Delamere Forest for the weekend and off to Red Wharf Bay on Anglesey for Bank Holiday Weekend. Just debating whether to stay an extra night and travel back Tues night

Loolah Sun 18-Aug-13 20:16:18

Off to woodlands in Devon for 7 days on Saturday and I'm hoping the weather is dry for pitching the tent that is all I'm asking for smile

Ineedmorepatience Sun 18-Aug-13 22:23:13

I still have 2 trips planned and am so excited at the prospect of some decent weather.

I am off to wales for the bank hol and then the end of cornwall for the last bit of the school hols. We are lucky and dont go back until the 5th so have squeezed an extra camp in.

Have had the best summer of camping ever smile

Oh I hope the sun comes back to Lancashire!!

We had a really hot week here, second and third week in July. Then we went to Rhodes, Greece where the temperatures were soaring higher and higher everyday. Came home (sulking and with bad holiday blues LOL) on the 7th August and every day since then we have had rain. So piggin' depressing.

Im sure it was always hot in the Summer when I was a kid hmm

Gracie990 Sun 18-Aug-13 22:34:50

Check out accuweather, they do long range forecasts. Each day for a month.

So far they been spot on.

womma Sun 18-Aug-13 22:56:57

Yay! We're off to Eweleaze tomorrow, till Wednesday. Really hope it's dry, we inherited a tent and have only
just checked's a weeny bit decrepit.

So if you see a family of three in a tent that looks like we got in a garage sale at a refugee camp, come and say hello

Thank you Gracie for accuweather. DD1 and I are camping at Blair Horse Trials next weekend - I'm now very excited at the prospect of dry weather grin

NonnyMuss Sun 18-Aug-13 23:48:53

Camusdarach grin grin grin grin grin

Gracie990 Mon 19-Aug-13 07:01:18

My pleasure :-) I have found it spot on all summer. predicting rain for our last camp of the year in sept

Happypiglet Mon 19-Aug-13 07:08:05

We are off to Low Wray on shore of Lake Windemere on Weds for five nights. Weather looks good not as hot as here in SE but sunny....never camped in the Lakes in the sun before!

We are off to Cornwall on Friday for a week. Really hoping we get dry if not sunnyt sunny would be too much to hope for!

MummyPigsFatTummy Mon 19-Aug-13 11:36:40

Those of you coming to Eweleaze, the weather is beautiful atm
we have been dog walking this morning. The kids loved that. Indoor and outdoor hay bales are way better than soft play and jumping off the pontoon into the sea is a blast too. Best 5 days our DD(3.9) has had ever. And the weather looks great for the rest of the week. :-)

ImpatientOne Mon 19-Aug-13 11:37:28

Just booked a pitch for the weekend! Overexcited and distracted now!

Just a lovely simple campsite for me and DH, spoke with the lady on the phone who took my booking - first name only and pay in cash when we get there smile

Looking forward to chilling out reading eating, drinking and looking at some hills while DH goes off on his bike grin

aw, I love eweleaze, just too far for a short trip, and they're not open after BH this year sad
I want to go somewhere 29/30/31/1st... but no idea where. Suggestions for nice beachy sites anyone?
We're in midlands... so everywhere is bloody miles away!

I have a 7yoand a 4yo... they're happpy to play and eat all day

hazeyjane Tue 20-Aug-13 12:41:09

We are off to Eweleaze on Thurs, can't wait!

My only worry is that I'd like to take ds's new sn buggy, but can't remember how bumpy ground is!

wickeddevil Tue 20-Aug-13 14:08:32

Another one for the new forest. Shall I wear a scarf?

SparkyUK Tue 20-Aug-13 15:19:43

I thought everywhere appeared to be having rain on Saturday. Am I missing something or do I just look at the wrong weather reports confused

Let me know where the sun is and I'm going to try to find last minute availability to try out my new tent. Don't need much, just a level field and a tap and preferably a toilet. But I don't really fancy booking last minute to sit in a wet field. hmm. In London, but willing to travel quite far.

Sconset how far are you from Anglesey?

hazeyjane Tue 20-Aug-13 15:39:24

Oooh, we might bump into each other!

It's actually a fairly robust buggy with big tyres at the back, but I think we'll stick our old mountain buggy in, because dh is worried that we'll need to bring a bus to fit everything in!

Just did a camping shop - I had lots of looks of sympathy with my trolley full of chocolate and wine, with 3 children in tow, truly the shopping trolley of the harassed mother.

MissWimpyDimple Tue 20-Aug-13 16:52:33

We are going to try sumners ponds in sussex :-)

Sconset Tue 20-Aug-13 23:30:03

Ooh- Anglesey a fair drive, I'm afraid... we're in Bham!
We'll probably head to Norfolk or Gower- love both coasts!

Gower on my list for next year - let me know any good sites

ViviPru Wed 21-Aug-13 09:49:14

Yay we're off to Bedgebury on Friday - warm but a few showers, should be ok. Looking forward to trying out our new moons - I might pack a couple of sheepskins to whack on them too...

devilinside Wed 21-Aug-13 10:48:57

we're off to Brittany on Fri, weather looks similar to the south of England, couple of degrees warmer.

Pixel Wed 21-Aug-13 23:15:24

Well we've had a lovely sunny few days and thought we were going to finally manage a dry camping holiday. Now sitting here listening to the rain and wishing we were a bit nearer the toilet blockgrin.

CMOTDibbler Fri 23-Aug-13 18:11:23

Just back from a glorious 4 nights at St Mabyn. Couldn't have asked for better weather, and the campsite was fabulous

WhoNickedMyName Sun 25-Aug-13 17:29:11

We're home from a beautiful week at Ladram Bay in Devon. Our first four days were very hot and sunny, actually after a couple of hours on the beach I had to go and find some shade. Last two days were overcast but still warm enough for shorts and tshirt. Devon is just stunning, we will definitely go back.

ImpatientOne Mon 26-Aug-13 21:31:44

Home and almost unpacked from 3 nights in our new tent in the Yorkshire Dales grin

Friday night hurled it down which was pretty scary when we'd quite quickly thrown the tent up before the rain but thankfully we stayed dry! The portable urinal that my DH had scoffed at also came in very handy shock

Sunday & Monday were scorchers so the tent had plenty of time to get dry. I should also say a huge thank you to the camping boards of Mumsnet for introducing me to the invaluable nature of the tent footprint - it is quite possibly the best £18 I have ever spent! grin
