Chess is out for us (dh used to compete to quite a high standard and won't play with 'one move ahead' me) and bridge does my head in. Again, dh is really good at it. Actually ANY card games involving complicated/predictive maths is out as it will end in Words.

So prompted by Slubber's thread about Monopoly Deal grin, I was wondering what else people play of a rainy evening.

isitsnowingyet Mon 29-Apr-13 16:50:56

Go fish; gin rummy; Scrabble?

Slubberdegullion Mon 29-Apr-13 16:51:23

Charades grin

Some sort of competitive craft.

Travel scrabble.

I dunno, umm, how many biscuits can you insert in your mouth at the same time?

<thinks on>

Slubberdegullion Mon 29-Apr-13 16:52:39

We got Pit at Christmas too as well as Monopoly Deal. I like Pit (v shouty!) but the MD is much better and much more evil.

Ffuntimewincies Mon 29-Apr-13 16:53:28

Some of those games sound like fun Slubber.

<keeps a straight face and adds to list>

My sister has rapidough and that is hilarious for a group. you get into teams and one person has to mould what's written on the card for the team mates to guess.

I'm not sure how it would go with just a couple though?

RightUpMyRue Mon 29-Apr-13 17:13:44

You need a travel version of Blockbusters.

nottersgotterdonkey Mon 29-Apr-13 17:36:16

For the record, I don't do fucking craft. wink

Particularly in a tent.

I do always take a good book though.

Slubberdegullion Mon 29-Apr-13 17:45:15

Well that's a shame Notters as you are potentially missing out on all sorts of cheap and wholesome fun.

Bramblesinafield Mon 29-Apr-13 17:45:40

Me, I just get ratted and see if I have any religious experiences.

Wolfcub Mon 29-Apr-13 17:48:18

Bramblesinafield Mon 29-Apr-13 17:50:34

Quite right, wolfcub.

nottersgotterdonkey Mon 29-Apr-13 18:55:16

The only "craft" I would partake of whilst camping would be participating in a Pimms Masterclass.

Zoomania Mon 29-Apr-13 18:58:16

Bramblesinafield Mon 29-Apr-13 19:21:21

You could craft hats out of leaves and other found objects, Notters.

Maybe you could organise a competition to see who can have the biggest wood, funtimes?

Bramblesinafield Mon 29-Apr-13 19:22:07

We also like the one word at a time story game. Adding one word at a time. Usually whilst drinking crabbies, staring at the sky. Sighs.

Ffuntimewincies Mon 29-Apr-13 19:29:05

And who says that camping is dull?

Is banangrams like scrabble?

Making a hat from foraged foliage and surprised small mammals is only one small step away from wriggling around in the mud and pretending you're in a vietnamese jungle imo. You're probably right in your stance Notters.

Quenelle Mon 29-Apr-13 19:36:10

Last August we pitched near a caravan with a ginormous telly in it and spent a fun evening watching the Paralympics through their window, providing our own commentary to make up for the lack of sound.

nottersgotterdonkey Mon 29-Apr-13 20:19:14

Oi - I'm not Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now, you know!

nottersgotterdonkey Mon 29-Apr-13 20:21:12

Just re-read.

"Right in your stance" - you meant YY Notters, for you are wise.

Not, "right in your stance" = that's you, that is.

<gets coat>

Slubberdegullion Mon 29-Apr-13 20:30:57

Oh Quenelle, making your own sound track to next door's tv has given me the sad face.

LostInCaveysAnus Mon 29-Apr-13 20:33:36

I like telling a good joke always sets the tone. Anyone know any about cheese?

LostInCaveysAnus Mon 29-Apr-13 20:34:32

A good book to make DH laugh is always a good move too notters.

NumTumDeDum Mon 29-Apr-13 20:37:22

Rude shadow puppets grin

Ffuntimewincies Mon 29-Apr-13 20:37:52

I like the idea of hogging someone elses telly grin.

Cavey, you've got a caravan I seem to recall. Can we all pitch up and gurn at your box?

LostInCaveysAnus Mon 29-Apr-13 20:41:51

<pssssst funtimes it's not Cavey, it's me, can you remember how I ended up with this NN? I am baffled>

Ffuntimewincies Mon 29-Apr-13 20:45:07

Not a clue, sorry grin.

Shhh, don't tell Cavey then. She might close the curtains and we'll have to play Pictionary instead.

Oooh, good call NumTum grin. Now that's what I call making your own entertainment!

CaveyLovesPendleton Mon 29-Apr-13 21:05:58

Erm, wtaf is going on with my anus?

Ffuntimewincies Mon 29-Apr-13 21:12:14

We're all oggling it Cavey and making up our own soundtrack in the name of entertainment grin.

It was all Quenelle's idea! <runs>

LostInWales Mon 29-Apr-13 21:20:11

Nothing to do with me <whistles>

CaveyLovesPendleton Mon 29-Apr-13 21:23:38

Well that's OK then grin

One game I do not recommend is this fucking hideous Peppa Pig game - it makes me want to commit hara kiri.

Ffuntimewincies Mon 29-Apr-13 21:24:42

Not even after a couple of beers? grin

LostInWales Mon 29-Apr-13 21:43:22

I've got to admit this thread has me wracking my head now, we are obviously very unwholesome as we tend to eat late as poss then drink until we are sleepy blush

Bramblesinafield Mon 29-Apr-13 21:50:33

Yep we follow the losters' model. Cook over the fire, chat, fall asleep.

Or lie in bed with books and head torches or illuminated kindles.

or a DVD on the player wholesome

purpleroses Tue 30-Apr-13 16:15:53

Bananagrams definitely - it's a bit like scrabble, but simpler, against the clock and great fun for any number of players.

Kahlua4me Tue 30-Apr-13 19:05:13

Bananagrams, shut the box and cards for us. Shut the box is my favourite as you can chat inbetween goes.
Dh says he can't wait to go camping now after me reading out all these games. Think he has other games that are his favourite wink

TeamEdward Tue 30-Apr-13 19:12:07

What about Chubby Bunnies? Hours of fun for all the family until someone chokes to death on a partially digested marshmallow

Uno Extreme is always a success under our canvas :-)

Ffuntimewincies Tue 30-Apr-13 20:33:26

Chubby Bunnies? Do tell!

HarrietSchulenberg Tue 30-Apr-13 20:36:49

Boggle. Shut the Box. Mancala. Used to play Othello but can't remember the rules now.

TeamEdward Tue 30-Apr-13 21:03:53

Chubby Bunnies.
1) Everyone takes turns to put a marshmallow into their mouth. DO NOT SWALLOW.
2) Say "Chubby bunnies".
3) Repeat. Ad nauseum.

Winner is the person who can hold the most marshmallows in their mouth and say Chubby bunnies without spewing out marshmallow or choking.

My personal record is 17.

LostInWales Tue 30-Apr-13 21:17:17

I saw Gwyneth Paltrow play chubby bunnies on a cookery programme recently. It totally changed my opinion of her, she beat the other presenters by miles even though she was laughing so hard she could barely say 'chubby bunny'. Respect.

DaveMccave Tue 30-Apr-13 23:14:42

Pissed Jenga. It's the only camping game.

Ffuntimewincies Wed 01-May-13 11:59:14

That's an impressive total TeamEdward!

I've played a similar game with biscuits, setting a personal best of 6 custard creams (or was it 7?) grin

TeamEdward Wed 01-May-13 13:45:02

<eyes up the custard creams packet>

blondebubble Wed 01-May-13 13:48:41

And what's wrong with sleeping bag sex!

AvrilPoisson Wed 01-May-13 20:09:22

heheh- maybe teamedward is gwynnie?? wink

We always play loads of cards, mainly chinese poker, banangrams no good as the tiles just get lost! (No table)

TeamEdward Wed 01-May-13 20:34:58

<eyes up macro-biotic custard creams>

AvrilPoisson Wed 01-May-13 21:00:16

It's such a shame my children don't like marshmallows sad

(cos DH and I get to eat them all when camping! grin)

FannyBazaar Wed 01-May-13 21:27:01

I'm with blondebubble, what is wrong with sleeping bag sex confused? I guess being single and not having it available as an option I am slightly surprised anyone choose to opt out.

Sniggering at chubby bunnys. That sounds like a most excellent game grin

We play top trumps. Also getting pissed on gininatin while the boys run till they're tired. I'm yet to have any religious visitations on a campsite though brambles, only in a travel lodge in Bournemouth grin

blondebubble Thu 02-May-13 12:34:02

You need to get yourselves a left and right sleeping bag if you don't already - zip together and hey presto - a giant sleeping bag - makes sleeping bag sex much easier! Though I always suspect the camp shop people know that's why you want one of each blush

Ffuntimewincies Thu 02-May-13 20:15:00

With a 3 year old one side of us and a 6 year old the other, sleeping bag sex is less tempting these days FannyBazaar. And I like to keep my layers on. grin
