Advice for camping with a child who isn't totally dry at night

I have just returned from my first family camping trip and DS managed to wee in the sleeping bag by 11pm on the first night. I always lift him when I go to bed and he is normally ok at home. I think he was really warm and very tired and couldn't control himself. It meant that the 2nd night I took him to the loo at 9.30 / 11.00 and about 2am when I woke up.

DH wanted to put a nappy on him, but I couldn't do that. Any top tips?

Did the lifting him work at 2am? Ds for some strange reason had a wet PJ's & sleeping bag even with a nappy while camping I couldn't figure out why! My ds still not dry at night 4 yrs old. Will try again soon. After a few nights I lifted my boy whe I went to the loo. Lovely to see the stars & countryside at that time.

pullups!

honeslt, life is too short - and he will be able to relax and sleep better too.

I'd say pull-ups or those huggies pyjama pants, maybe with one of those bed mats just incase.

We are taking a camping toilet this year for our nearly 4yo as he is now too big for the potty we took along camping last year - but isn't quite reliable enough to make the distance to the toilet block every time.

Starbear, do you think maybe condensation caused the dampness on the bed and sleeping bag? I know our airbed sometimes gets all damp (and I know for certain that DH and I don't wet the bed)

my dd is still not totally dry at nights ans she wears pullups, better than wet sheets, sore bottoms and a smelly tent

dd will be wearing a pull up this summer. No question. I've already explained to her that we're going to buy special camping pants. Will have to look for a different brand of pull up and hope she's convinced...

Thanks, it did rain for the almost the whole week last year.

It sounds like we may have been camping the same week then . We had a stream running downhill under our tent - if we hadn't had the tent carpet down all our stuff would have been soaked as the groundsheets couldn't deal with the amount of water.

Due to a storage accident this winter we have gone out and bought new camping equipment this year. DH agreed to buy the carpet for me (love him) So the carpet is a good idea then?

Thanks for the advice. Yes, taking him to the loo more frequently the 2nd night worked, but I dont think I slept properly because i was worrying about it. I like the idea of 'camping pants', I may splash out on those pyjama bottom things though, so he doesn't feel like he is regressing back to nappies. Its just odd that he managed to wee within a couple of hours of going to bed and he did 3 wees before going to sleep.

That sounds like a bad week of camping Starbear and Washersaurus. Glad we bought the carpet for the tent this year!

We put DS into pullups at night and called them camping pants too. He was fine with them and woke up for a midnight trip to the loo anyway.
