Best thing to sleep on?

We have always used a double, blow-up, canvas airbed, which is fine, but just wondering what new-fangled stuff is out there that might be lighter/more comfortable etc? Thinking maybe memory foam or those fat thingies... What do you have and is it great?

We got a blow up bedroll from a camping store for DH (aka princess and the pea!) for around £100 that works a treat. It was expensive but anything to keep him from whinging about a bad back! It's thin, and blows up on its own. Brilliant.

Airics or Thermarests or similarly constructed mats. Tbe reason so many recommend Airics is that they are really comfortable, are cheaper than Thermarests and the firm that supplies them (they are only available online) is very helpful.

We bought a couple of Fat Airics last month (£5 discount ea if you buy two)

Have only tried them indoors so far, but they're miles better than our old Thermarests and our double airbed.

Forgot to add, what would the best bed solution be for DD 5yrs and DS 2.4yrs (still in cot at the mo) for 2 weeks camping in France?

Airics are great - even for my dodgy back!

We bought a couple of Far Airics last year and I love mine, although DH still hasn't found the perfect solution (although I can hear him snoring so he does get some sleep at least!). For the kids (9 and 4) we always use the roll up foam camping mats (not blow up at all) as they seem to roll all over the place. Tried DD with an airbed the first time we went camping and she kept rolling off, and DS started off at about 10 months on a double airbed with me (we co-slept at home anyway). The he progressed onto the foam mat (2 side by side as he rolls about so much) and he sleeps very well, apart from being a nightmare to get to sleep in the first place when we are camping as he doesn't like the dark

Heabwoman, For your son and the dark why not try some snap sticks there cheap of the net and and you could hang one for him, like a night light at home, but if he wants one to take to bed he could have one too as there safe.

we have 3m X 2m offcut of 3in thick foam that I got by ringing up a foam cut to order company on the internet. It the top of a block that they normally throw away so one side is waterproofed with some shiny stuff. Cost £25 inc delivery a couple of year ago

We cut it to fit the shape of our bed pod (big as it's a wynnster sattelite 12). We transport it by rolling it up like a roll of carpet and sticking it on the roof rack.

Fir the kids we use the breen fold up camp beds that cost a tenner in argos. It keeps them off of the ground so they stay warm.

What are snap sticks?

DD will only sleep with 3 lights on in her room, so need a solution that doesn't require dozens of batteries every night
