Camping Dune de Pyla, SW France - help please!

Hi, next summer we want to stay at one of the campsites just south of the Dune de Pyla. We went there for the day last year and the area is gorgeous! But which campsite is best? There are a couple of recommendations on Mumsnet for Camping Du Pyla but there's nothing with that exact name! We will be staying in a chalet or mobile home rather than a tent. There will be two families with kids ranging from 7 to 1. Thanks!

I live near Pyla. I am sorry but I have no idea which campsite is best as have never camped there.

The area is lovely but the currents are ferocious and not at all good for young children. You would be much better off on the other side - Cap Ferrat - which is inland and not on the actual Atlantic but the cove end of the bay.

The traffic in the whole area is utterly vile August. You need to be near walkable beaches that work for youngies.

Things have changed hands since we used to go when I was a teenager but I'd suggest you consider this area. It is by the lake so very safe swimming for the little ones and is a bit cooler than right by the beach. There are loads of watersports for the 7 year olds to try out. There is a small shop on site and it is right on the cycle paths for the ocean and for Maubuisson. Also easy to drive to either.

There are loads of chalets around there too but mostly privately owned so you would have to look for agencies. My uncle used to have one, shall try to find...

Lacanau lac is cool - the beach is sort of scrubby (lots of twigs) but it is very shallow and kid friendly.

The sea at Lacanau has a helipad which is in frequent use in the summer - carting off overly adventurous surfers. Huge waves.

I live about forty minutes from Plya Indith. MY friend who lives there has a house full of sand!

Right by the Stade (what is it called again? Is it Delmas? Used to be Lescure). Still have Mamie living there and my uncle is in Merignac as well as the odd cousin dotted around.

By the boulevards? Do you come over often? There are some lovely old houses round there...

Hi, thanks for your messages. We actually stayed in Pyla Sur Mer last summer, where the beaches are good for kids because sheltered by the bassin d'Arcachon, but went to the beaches south of the dune as well on a day trip - the kids had a fab time - they can't swim yet so just splashed about. Also didn't find the traffic very bad - compared to England it's fine, even in August!
Thanks though. If anyone does know the best campsite, please let me know!

Sorry alors, ds woke up and I never made it back!

Avenue du Parc de Lescure is where Mamie is, the one that runs along past the main entrance. So much fun on match days We come over a fair bit to visit, got to have my yearly stock up of confit and pate .

We travelled to the Dune from Le Viuex Port (stayed there twice with Siblu - lots of other companies go too) which is a great site but the sea is VERY rough, so a surfers paradise.

They also have a site nearer - on the lake, called La Reserve which my neighbors went to and had a great time.

A huge advantage to La Reserve is it is a Siblu owned site so the kids clubs are massive and catering for all ages, and they always make friends.
