Camping in the cold

Me and my friend frieda are going on a weekend camping trip this weekend.

We will be stopping in a 4-man large tent, are we insane to camp in this country in November?

Any ideas to keep warm will be greatly appreciated.

Take lots of blankets and wear lots of layers. If you are using airbeds put blankets underneath and on top to help keep the cold out. Take hats and gloves and thermals if you have them. Its important to change into your nighttime wear before it gets too cold. I put my pjs etc on and then other clothes on top so I just peel off the outer layer before going to bed rather than having to get changed in the cold and dark. A heater can help but will cause condensation which will make the inside of the tent etc damp. Plenty of alcohol helps of course

i will remember a bottle of whiskey. there is a pub nearby so we can stop in there and be merry until the early hours.

Yes that would definitely help. DH and i have seperate sleeping bags as otherwise he lets loads of cold air in when ever he rolls over but then we snuggle up to keep warm under one (or 2!) big duvet.

we are both single. We're hoping to invite two strapping lads back to our tent to keep us warm. plenty of room in this 4-man tent.

If you're going to dress in the tent in the mornign, rather than in the showers, put tomorrow's next-to-the-skin layers in the bottom of the sleeping bag so that they'll be warm in the morning.

Yes, you are.

decent sleeping bags and extra layers underneath and on top. Its meant to be quite mild this weekend - 13 or so.
And strapping lads might help

i am a bit worried that all these extra clothes, blankets etc and two men, there won't be any room in the tent to sleep. Also what happens if one of us wants to go to the toliet?

Are these campsite full of decent facilities this time of year?

Where are you going? Most sites have decent toilet facilities. Having said that we have a bucket (with a lid!) for night-time wees

we are going to the new forset!!! we will take a two buckets. but they will mainly be used for capturing puke if we drink too much.

About wees, we always go au-natural, however we need one of the lads to come with us outside to protect us in the dark

Is it one of the forestry commision ones? Some of their toliets are great but others are very basic and a couple have no toilets etc at all.

MarthaClapp · 12/11/2008 13:38

I think this site will be basic.

oh a bush with do for us. the man can hold the paper and shine the tourch. he'll be rewarded afterwards.
