Havn't been to pentewan sands for at least 30 years, but used to enjoy it when we went camping there with my mum and dad. AFAIR we could walk to the beach there and tbh mevagissy is lovely.
Went to Perran Sands last sept but stayed in a caravan. the camping area looked nice and had a nice looking play area, we wished we were camping cos the other play areas on site were old and needed replacing. Being a haven site you get the evening entertainment etc, but tbh we weren't really that impressed. Its a very long walk to the beach. Though Perranporth is a lovely little place too and the beach is large and sandy, being on the north coast, the waves can get big, great for surfing and bodyboarding, not so good for little uns with the strong currents.

We have booked entewan, realised afyter reading reviews that there is a 400m steep slope from the beach to the site, 3 whining DDs would not make a relaxing end to a day at the beach

we stayed about 2 miles from perran sands just afew weeks ago.
While we were down there it won an award for....ummm.....something (helpful aren't I?/)
We drove passed teh site daily and it does look well maintained etc but it also look big and busy.

we stayed here which was a lovely quite site but central to a whole lot of stuff.

We stayed with DGS at Pentewan and loved it, we use public transport and it's easy to get to Mevagissey, St Austell and the Eden Project.

DGs loved the beach which is 2 mins away and we all loved the pub in the village which did great food though we had to queue up to be sure of getting a table. www.staustellbrewery.co.uk/st-austell-brewery-pubs/ship-inn---pentewan.html

We didn't use the entertainment but I'm sure it's ok if it's your thing. We are more of a 'comfy clothes on with a glass of G&T' folks but when my children were little they loved all the 'shows'.

Pentewan is better with LOs to be honest, as you say beach access is much easier. If you are camping pitch in one of the fields further back because it can be windy at the front! If you are looking for a caravan in that area River Valley was lovely.

Perrans beach is much nicer though.

Really looking forward to it now, we are right at the back of the site, near the tree line, so hopefully we will be sheltered.

Have almost everything ready to go, just need to buy food and pack clothes

I think DP and I will go to Perranporth for surfing on a weekend when we don't have the DDs

Hi Bratnav,

glad you decided on pentewan with the kids :-) If you have a weekend dd free then check out Porthtowan beach (not far from perranporth), its a smaller beach and has less currents. There is also a really fab cafe bar there that does lovely food :-) its also a good beach for the kids and tends to be less crowded. not sure about camping there, though I'm sure theres a camp site nearby.
