So we have bought a nice big tent off ebay to go to a family party and now think we might just make full use of it and go on a summer camping holiday. Friends will ROFL at idea of me camping, but I will prove them wrong!

So who can recommend some nice coastal campaites?

I want:

  • near to a nice beach (ideally walkable)
  • Suitable for kids DS1 is 4 and DDS2 almost 1, so play area etc would be good
  • Call me snob but definitely not in a tacky seaside resort
  • Nice and peaceful but with some wet weather acitivities nearby
  • Nice loos and showers (the camping phobic part of me I'm afraid!!)
  • We are in East Mids - south/ south west probably best, family are all south so could break up the journey with a trip to granny's!

Hi Melrose, We went to a lovely campsite near St Merryn in North Cornwall: Mother Ivey's Bay Caravan Park - it has a website. It has its own private beach, great shower/toilet facilities, including a family bathroom. We went when my DD was 1 - can't remember about the playarea but the site and beach were great. Area is lovely - Padstow/St Merryn quite touristy but there are loads of things to do elsewhere.

Thanks hotpasty will take a look. Padstow touristy in a lovely way though as opposed to an amusement arcade and butlins way (God I'm a snob - sorry!)

How about Dorset?

Golden Cap at Seatown is lovely You can stroll to the pebbly beach - but be warned coastal sites can be really windy! we got away lightly at Whit, purely because we were inland in Devon.

Try for the bit of the site near the toilet blocks not the overflow field - slopey and windy!

Another vote for Mother Ivey's Bay. Beautiful.Loads to do close by. Fern and Phil had a caravan there.

North Devon, near Woolacombe - steep walk to the beach www.northmortefarm.co.uk/
Not a great website but a lovely family site, have to drive to the beach though www.treglisson.co.uk/index5.htm
