Camping

Do you think it is ok to take a 15 month old camping (for the 1st time!) at this time of year?

We have been wanting to give camping a go for a while and have been invited on a camping trip at the weekend.

I am mostly realy excited but every so often I feel a bit worried about it as DD is only 15 months old. She loves being outside so I am sure she will enjoy that part of it but am a bit worried about her being cold at night.

Its only for 2 nights and we are really up for it as if successful we can plan our summer camping holidays!

What do you think? Will she be too cold?

We took ours away when they were 7 months and 11 months. Worked fine, just take plenty blankets for night time and plenty warm clothes for day time.
Enjoy!

I think it will be fun for all of you.
Snuggle her up well, and it'll be fine.
Just don't camp too far away from home for your first trip.

My kids loved camping at this age. The only thing to watch is that they're into everything. You can't put stuff in high cupboards so you need to secure knives, food, salt etc in zippy bags.

so long as you don't underestimate just how cold it can be at night at this time of year you shoudl be ok

Both of my ds's had their first taste of camping at about 4 months old so you should be fine. Just make sure your dd is warm enough and there are a few home comforts there - fav cuddlies etc.

I'm really jealous now cos I want to go campimg too

I am really excited about it. Its really close to home and I think camping in a group for our first trip is a good idea and will make it much easier.

What do you think I should dress DD in for bed? Was thinking vest, pyjamas, fluffy all in one thing & grobag - does that sound about right or is that too much?

Thanks for the replies - really looking forward to it now.

we have just got back from a week camping in devon with my dc. dd is just 2 (yesterday) she slept at night in her vest, tights, pj's and a fleece jumper. inside a thick doublesleeping bag with me. she was warm enough at night, i did try getting her to sleep with hat and gloves too but she didnt agree at all, and took them off. it was very cold at night, the tent had frost on it 2 of nights. the days were much nicer, and we all had a good time. go for it

jumpyjan we camped on Arran in July with DTs when they were about 19 months, they wore PJs, vests, fleecy jumpers (which we had to go and buy specially!) and grobags, still cold
