When camping/caravanning with a baby, does it all go wrong at night?

DS (13mo) is now a good sleeper after many months of sleepless hell, so we have been brave enough to book a few days in a mobile home on the south coast in April.

But I am starting to feel a bit panicky about the nights, we have stayed away from home before but only at my dad's where there's a proper cot. DS will be in a travel cot and I'm worried that the strange environment will make him freak out and not sleep.

So do you have any tips for making sure he stays settled at night? And what do I do if he wakes in the night? Normally at home, on the rare occasions he wakes, we leave him to cry for a few minutes and he settles back to sleep without too much fuss. But will I have the whole campsite hating me if he screams the place down?

His own bedding, his own toys and lots of fresh air and a swim if possible before bed time to wear him out on the first night.

If you start fretting - so will he. Go and enjoy the break

just follow your normal routines and keep his familiar things around him. that's the best you can do, and relax and enjoy! he'll pick up if you're tense about it.

I have taken mine away to statics from as little as 7 weeks old with no bother. The two smallest are now 30mths and 7mths and we have a touring caravan.
The 30mo is in a bed and the 7mo in a travel cot. I have had no problems with them as they sleep well but you could try putting your ds in the travel cot at home a few nights before to get him accustomed to it? My 30mo has a 'snudge' comforter blanket and I make sure I have that with me when away.
Let him cry as you would at home because if you change it he might reprogramme himself to cry for the attention he got on holiday at home imo.

We went away in our campervan when our ds was 10 months old, the only thing that caused him to wake up was the fact his little hands were cold. He was in his own sleeping bag but didn't snuggle down like adults do and his hands were exposed. We started to put socks over his hands and it really helped.

Just go with the flow and enjoy yourselves, it's really good fun.
