i don't know. TBH I would err on the side of caution. I think that they do have lifeguards, and french life guads can insist.

If you post on UKcampsite.co.uk, there may well be someone who has direct experience.

DH has been sent out of French pools before now

Are you talking swimming shorts? If so it is a no no, haven't been to this campsite but three others in the vendee and all were very strict, ds and dh had to come out of the pool at the first one.

you can buy swimming shorts in the hypermarche, but tbh that is a bit of a pita when the kids are desparate to get into the pool

If you are looking for a good hypermarket I can recomend the one in Sable D'olonne...bit of a drive, but has a fabbo resturant that does fantastic fresh baked pizza as well as moule etc.

I don't know about this campsite, but two summers ago we went to a private beach in Italy with a seawater pool, and swiming attire was very closely monitored. Speedos for boys/men, and those fabric swim caps for everybody. Why do British males have such a problem with not being allowed to wear shorts in the pool?!

I second that it's fab and well worth the drive, fresh walnut bread and brie yum

and the fresh fish department is worth a trip on its own. Mt kids love seeing all the live lobsters etc......nasty little brutes that they are!

I've never heard of this rule before. What is the reason for swim shorts not being allowed?

Was one of the highlights of our holidays very sad!

I think the reason is men look better in speedos

Report
MuminBrum · 24/06/2007 15:08

Swim shorts not allowed because the temptation is there to walk around all day in them, and then bring lots of detritus and dust into the pool. Very few men will walk around all day in their speedos!

The reason I've been given is that some blokes will wear the shorts all day, getting them dusty and dirty. When they go in the pool, it dirties the water. So they ask for spedo style, cos most people will only use them for the pool, and the water quailty will be improved.

The place that we have been to in the vendee doesn't, but it doesn'#t have a life guard. In the post I have found that the bigger the pool complex, the stricter the guards are re speedos.

Ask in UKcampsite, someone will know

Also, a multitude of "sins" can be hidden in all the fabric of shorts??

schnapps · 24/06/2007 15:17

Oh I see, well that makes sense. I wish that rule was enforced everywhere

Plus less muck equals less chlorine required.

I've just returned from France where we found that the boys could wear baggy trunks around the pool, but had to have speedos on in the pool. They had to show the pool superintendent that they had the speedos on underneath when they entered the pool area.
