So you drive to a place of outstanding national beauty, belching out 1/3 more crap than usual, even.

And thats BEFORE the satellite dishes, gnomes, carpets etc

tut tut tut

(ps why YES my in laws have one)

I popped on to a caravan site v close to Pooley Bridge last week, simply to use the toilets! I felt a bit guilty and wondered if it was Anteater's site

I've given it some thought, and have come to the conclusion that I couldn't give a flying fuck

But they don't blow away in the wind do they. Tents do. Oh yes...

Grrrrrr - bitter experience....

Some people have too much time on their hands...I couldn't give a toss. If I had the time and inclination, I'm sure I could prove scientifically that it is still greener than staying in a hotel. But I'm not that sad...

Well, obviously my guilt at sneaky and unauthorised use of facilities possibly belonging to a MN-er would have been alleviated had I realised I was taking revenge on eco-savages.
And, tell me this. If carvan-towers 'need' belching 4x4s to tow these things, how come they still travel two abreast all the way down the M6 at 50mph?? Bet THAT was your in-laws, too!

I'd like to have a holiday on that site in the IoW where you can hire one of those 1950s stainless steel riveted american numbers. But they stay put.

nah, caterpillar, you just CAN'T prove

and ooh YES, being concerned about the environment is SUCH a waste of time.

caterpillar - I think she's more interested in scoring points against her ILs than a full eco-audit of caravans

There's a fine line between caring and being a busybody..

Report
quadrophenia · 04/06/2007 17:55

I know i go on about my van but in all honesty they are crap for emissions, but because there is such a romantic ideal that comes with them people tend not to have the same problem with them as they would with for example 4 x 4's. that said they do serve a purpose and consequnetly we don't go abroad so my conscience is clear!

Report
fillyjonk · 04/06/2007 17:57

um

i care about the ENVIROMENT

being a busybody is fun. But also, actually, I do think they are a bit crap. its my business if people want to pollute mine and my kids atmosphere, actually. I'd rather they desisted

don't get a campervan if you actually ever want to get anywhere. We are going to devon on friday and today i have been scouring the internet for aircooled specialists garages to get recovered to, just in case

This has to be a wind-up. It's too pathetic.

Report
Blu · 04/06/2007 18:03

Yes, but the occasional pootling about in a caravan is probably better than endless Sleazyjet mini-breaks where eco-havoc is wreaked in ares which can't withstand the water consumption of big hotels etc etc.

I had to discreetly PMSL at the man I heard booming away in Norfolk about where had the meat been sourced and how far had it travelled because they wanted to eat local food because of the air miles.....and then he hopped into his massive 4x4 in which he had travelled 130 miles from London in order to eat the said local food....

Report
fillyjonk · 04/06/2007 18:06

pmsl at man involved there blu

and yes they are better than flights, obv

but surely we should all be camping in canvas tents and eating (uncooked) food we have sourced ourself? surely that is the way to go?
