Anyone??? Seruisly I want a cheap and cheerful tent for one nighters, not worried about it being slightly 'fairweather' as it will be the grab and go one if the weather is nice, or one that we use on the way IYKWIM

Must have 2 rooms, pref sepatrate ends of tent and must be cheap

Must have the 2 rooms either end, and don't need extra 'stuff' like the halfords one

Be very careful buying tents off e-bay unless you know and trust the brand. Those in the kow at UKcampsite tell stories about people buying a crock of shit!

no you don't look like one

BUT that tent, whilst nice has two problems, one is we would be next to our kids 2nd is it is FAR too heavy
DH has said he wants one that is a real wekend tent that we could use in teh furture if we go off on our bikes!! Or on thetrain!! Not sure where he'll be putting my duvet, but that's in his head

I am looking at the other Coleman Ilinked to again

I'm watching this thread too crunchie. DH and I are thinking along just the same lines as you.

The halfords 'pack' looks good, but I have absolutely no idea about such things......

We need to be next to DD's to. I anticipate many nightime 'will you just settle down and go to sleep' visits!

crunchie · 04/06/2007 19:41

slubber , read my threads we need to be AWAY from the kids

The pack looks fine if you want to start camping but we already HAVE a big family tent that sleeps up to 12!! (there are 4 of us!!) a small pop up jobby sleeping 3 (well it ws flowery and pretty ) Now we need the 3rd tent for the stopovers and weekends when a big tent is too much, we also want it quite lightweight if we decdie to lug it about

lol at this thread. Have just returned from our first ever trip, which was a weekend break. Dh who has researched everything really well , (and took some persuading to camp in the first place) announced that maybe we ought to buy a weekend tent as well as our normal tent. Trouble is it would need to sleep 5 comfortably. Are there any quick-up tents that big?
Don't think we would seriously be buying it this year though.

ooops . Must must read posts properly!!

Oh you're def. not camping virgins like us if you have 2 tents already!!

We have no kit whatsoever but did Eurocamp last year and quite enjoyed it (despite the pissing weather in holland). DH has no holiday booked over summer, but we live really close to Wales so were thinking today about impromtu 'lets go and camp for 1 or 2 nights over a weekend if the weather is nice', sort of thing.

We must have something that is easy to erect. I am spatially incompetent and DH is supremely grumpy and irritable. dd2 also has an inbuilt 'I will now go and lose myself' if our backs our turned for 30sec+!

slubber the halfords pack (or tesco or argos) pack looks good. Personally there are certain things I like, and one is to take my duvet (so no need for sleeping bags) I also like decent blow up matresses not foam mats, you get a better nights sleep. So all in all I bought stuff separeately.

There are loads of good tents around at £100 - £150 that would do a family for short breaks. I would budget on around £200 - £250 for tent, mattresses, camping stove, chairs/table, gas lamps etc. We spent £400 our first year and add to it each time

(possible) daft question here.

We have an airbed and a pump that you plug into the mains. How to you blow it up if you are in a field?

Fantastic. Had a brilliant time, and with practise could probably have everything set up a bit quicker. At least we don't have to say we are first timers anymore .
Mind you we did have really good weather, only rained in the night last night (and only shoved dh once to get out of bed to make sure it wasn't leaking ). Seriously though there was plenty of room for all of us. We tried not to spy on too many people to see what they had got.
Think we might have got the bug.

Oh and another one.

Does all your stuff fit into a car?

We have an estate and a roof box but DH doesn't want to get into trailers.
