Have camped once (last weekend ) and def plan to do it again.

Hoping to go to Nodes Point in August and our options are

  1. Pre-erected tent with all the stuff for £269
  2. Take our own tent for £92

Now if we take our own, am I right in thinking we dont need a pitch with an electric hook-up because we dont have anything to run (e.g. we are not seasoned campers).
Are we doing the right thing saving £180 or is it a false economy (bearing in mind I dont plan on doing any cooking, will be using stove for cuppa and thats about it)

TIA for your opinions

I would take your own, and spend part of the £180 on some camping extras!

Yes thats what a friend said 'imagine all the things you can do for £180 when youre there'

so i dont need an electric hook up then do i? Just the stuff we took this weekend, utensils, couple of pans, cool box etc

can anyone tell me if we need a electric hook-up pitch if we will just be doing breakfasty stuff on a stove. What do you need an electric hook up for?

No one really needs ehu Moss...it's just for extras...errm electic fridge...lamp...that sort of thing
So you don't need to pay extra for Electric hookup unless you want to take electic items with you
You have a gas stove? you have bedding/sleeping stuff?...clothes... cool box?etc? ...if you were ok last weekend then you will be this time.
Ooh have a lovely time

god took me ages to work out was ehu was, theres no hope is there

wont be taking anything like that, we are virtual first timers!! Apparently Nodes Point has lots of facilities anyway so should be ok, thanks

No you don't need electric. Thats the point of camping.

I would take my own and spend the extra on takeaways or meals out in the pub. I agree you don't need ehu. We did a 10 day trip last year with no ehu, just used the gas cooker, calor gas lamp and swapped cool blocks at the camp shop every morning for the cool box. And if you aren't planning on any cooking, even less need for one.

Take your own, and don't do EHU as the EHU field ishasn't got as good a view as the non-ehu

Oh but do take a few delta pegs- being so near the coast is fab but its always worth it

Those who say ehu-
at nodes the non- ehy field overlook a beautiful bay with stunning views of the sea,

whereas the ehu ones often overlook a hedge

peachy can I just ask what the toilets and showers are like? Am a bit funny about things like that.
Also is there a shop on site to buy essentials, where are the nearest bakers and things to buy croissants and non-cooking stuff for brekkie?

Shop yes, opens at 8am and sells quite a good range

tesco (iirc) in about 10 minutes drive, spar about 5 minutes away- Ryde close so will be bakers there I think

last year there were temporary tolets as they were building brand new top of the range facillities

Funnily enough I have just spent exactly £180 on equipping us for our first camping trip. We already had tent and sleeping bags. I got for my money
Five single airbeds and an electric pump
Two ring camping cooker with grill
Kettle
Cafetiere
Big coolbox and 2 icepacks
Lantern

Definitely a good longterm investment IMO.
