Has anyone camped in the Loire Valley?

We're planning to camp there this summer. So far we have booked the ferry but drawn a blank on booking a campsite. I wondered if anyone has camped in that region and can recommend a campsite or at least a town?

We'll have a 4 year old and a toddler and our own tent.

Amboise might suit you. Not far from Tours.

Camping de L'ile D'Or is on an island in the Loire, bang in the centre of Amboise. It's a small town but has one of the Loire chateaux, v pretty, quite a lot to do in the nearby area.

Campsite nice, shady, has a pool.

info here

Should also add, although on an island it's connected by bridges so you can just walk into town easily.

Years and years ago we camped in the municipal site in Saumur, which was OK as far I recall (not very far!)

this UK site has Loire Valley campsite details and some have reviews

We LOVED chateau des marais it was FANTASTIC.

We went a couple of years ago in the Whitsun and we still want to go back. The campsite itself is small/clam and pretty. The pools are lovely with nice shallow bits and a toddler pool. You can hire bikes (and baby seats) and go cycling as it is all flat. Blois is a nice drive away for a town, Chateau de Chambord is cycling distance (5 mins into the parc and 15 - 20 mins to the cahteau) The parc is full of deer and wild boar, teh chateau is amazing and there is a horse show in teh grounds, and rowing boat rental which can be fun. Really nice place My children still talk abou it, the paths are great for kids to cycle around if you have a small bike for the 4 year old. My then 6 yr old learnt to ride without stabisers there
