Camping weekend ideas - couple hours from Glasgow?

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas of good campsites within a few hours of Glasgow for a night or two away at the weekend.

We have two small children, 2 and 4, so needs to be child friendly - as in don't mind a bit of potential noise :-) and ideally not a big "developed" kind of site.

Swapped our "big" tent for a smaller "weekend" tent and so want to get away more often and closer to home - any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Is Cumbria too far?

Caveat: we've not been yet... but there's a campsite right next to Culzean Castle which we've been eyeing up for a 2 or 3 night stay. We've got NTS membership so would probably spend the weekend in the castle grounds/on the beach etc.

I've also had a lovely couple of night here: Seaview Campsite near Oban. It's a short walk to a lovely beach and is very clean and well run. It's a small site but there are also other nice looking sites nearby if you want more amenities.

The Culzean Castle site.

Also, might be a bit far but this is a lovely site right on the beach: www.camusdarach.co.uk/

And again, not stayed here but friends have and love it: www.lochkenholidaypark.co.uk/camping-loch-ken.php down in Dumfries & Galloway.

Applecross is amazing and meets your criteria :)

Great suggestions thank you!

Cumbira would be good - usually go to Keswick (castlerigg site) but would be good to find other places...

Culzean is on our list! Love the estate and castle - in fact we got married there Smile

Used a lot of holiday days from work so trying to plan as many short weekend getaways in our new (more practical) tent for the rest of the summer (if we ever see actual summer again...)
