Beautiful regions to camp in France (Must be hot in August and near water)

Hi. I would be really grateful of ideas for scenic, interesting regions in France for a camping holiday.
The criteria:

  • near water (sea, lake or river)

-hot in august
-scenic
-character
-activities for active teens if they get bored
-within 9 hours of calais

We have been to the Dordogne several times and love it, but would like a change and the weather is a bit iffy at times.

The west coast of France seems so vast and a bit bleak in some of the photos. Are there any special places that are warm but not too far south, journey wise.

The med is just too far, I think.
Tia!

We love the arcachon bassin. Stayed a few times at La cigale campsite at Ares. Near the huge beaches. Lots of surfing etc. Great for Bordeaux etc. And gets toasty hot.

Thanks Ik. Sadly they don't have availability for our dates. Looks great tho! (We need combination of statics and a pitch).

The Drome or the Ardeche? Rivers rather than sea but hot, lots of activities and very scenic. We stayed at at campsite called L'hirondelle near Chatillon sur Diois which was great but probably a bit remote and low key for teens.

Oooooo you need to go to the volcanic region near volvic!! It's beautiful.

Lakes, hills, volcanoes heat and lots to do. Puy De Dom is fantastic, little train up there. There are some ski resorts which have good fun things for the kids in the summer seasons, like mountain tobbogan style things.

We stayed in a lovely campsite near a little place called Chambon sur Lac.

The ardeche is also beautiful but is very busy, and we found parts of it too touristy. The beauty of France for us, is that is so large, it's not usually busy.

I second Chambon Sur Lac - amazing area. We stayed at the Yelloh Valley site last year and had an amazing week - gorgeous weather, stunning scenery, amazing campsite and loads to do in the local area. I would highly recommend a day out at Volcania if you're in the area.

just stopping by rather belatedly to say a huge thanks for all the suggestions. We have booked a week in the Arcachon bay area (thanks ilk!), and now are looking at Puy de dome for a 4 night stay beforehand.

Flippidy and motherigloo, can you remember which campsite, please?

Ardeche and Annecy look god for next time :)

This is the one we stayed in - it's stunning and an immaculate site.

Oh I need to know this.

Can I add a requirement for a water park too? Either at campsite or nearby...?

The Jura is lovely. The weather isn't reliable in August in Annecy.

Another vote for the Auvergne near lac chambon. Our best ever holiday was at www.laribeyre.com/en/
Jura was awful weather for us.
