Camping

Recommends for Campsite near the sea please!

Last year, we went to a fab campsite - fairly basic facilities (far more basic than we'd have considered normally, lol) but we were camped within spitting distance of the sea and it was just awesome ( Aberafon in Gwynedd, North Wales for those interested!)

We'd like somewhere very similar: small, basic, right by the sea with own private beach/launching for boats (we don't have a boat, but we liked watching everyone else launch theirs of an evening!) but in a different area of the country - maybe Dorset or somewhere else on the south coast.

Any good recommends?

I remember your visit to Aberafon!

You could try Golden Cap near Lyme Regis in Dorset.

it's not very basic, in fact the toilet facilites are lovely, but there is no bar or entertainmments. The beach is a 2 minute walk and there is of course The Anchor Pub right on the beach. Not much boat launching, but that does mean you are safe from being flattened by oiks in boats!!

You can always watch the mackerel fishermen/women from the beach too!

I've put a review in Uk Camping if you want to read it.

That looks lovely, Lucycat. No objections to the toilets being good either ...

Does the Anchor Pub allow children in, do you remember?

tbh, we used to sit outside on the grassy lawn and send dh in to get the beer, or you can take your pint onto the beach!

I think they must do though as they serve food, although i don't know how good it is - there is also an ice cream 'shack' next to the pub - very useful for keeping the kids quiet

When are you thinking of going?

Summer holidays - planning in advance

Last year had a very limited choice of where to camp as we'd only just bought the folding camper on an impulse and lots of places we tried were full. Don't want to take that risk this year

It's certainly worth booking early with them, especially as you'll want ehu!

Are you based in the North West then if you went to the Lleyn last summer?

LC - Fantastic, I'm off there this year, just sent for brochure, it looks lovely, we usually stay in the cobb of Lyme Regis in a chalet, but can't afford it this year, so off in the caravan, thank you so much, I need my Lyme Regis fix!

yes us too, although I'm coming round to the idea of sites with trees as well!

We are going to Criccieth at Whit and then braving the drive down to Cornwall and Devon in the summer.

PC - that looks stunning, just a bit far for our brood, with caravan in tow, would take 10 hours, but it looks divine and I want to be there 'NOW'

PeachyClair · 07/01/2007 17:59

Goodo!

They weren't tempted to pitch it inside then?

Last year we bought one of these Quechua 3 second pop up tents for overnight stops on the continent and we made the mistake of putting it up in the house - it was huge!! and being a pop up we had to wrestle with it to get it back in it's bag

Ooo... more dilemmas - have also been recommended this one: East Fleet Farm - it's by a lagoon by the sea (near Chesil Beach) and has a working dairy farm on site.

ARGH! Too. Much. Choice

I've been to East Fleet- it's a good campsite, but I didn't recommend it as it didn't seem to fit your original criteria ?

Report
RubberDuck · 08/01/2007 17:34

Well it's sort of by the sea, lol.

I don't know now - i'm feeling all giddy. Dh has booked his holiday now, so all I have to do is choose.

Hi, a little late sorry, but I'd recommend East Fleet too. Farm isn't the type you wander around though, but really relaxed place. Gorgeous.
