Not crazy at all .
Can be very mild still at night until October .......it's the night temp that's Vital to me .

I know, and I'm just thinking how much worse can September be than the summer we're having...could even be better? drier?

I've done it for 1 night near Inverness. It was fine, a bit wet and miserable but warm enough to sleep :)

We had a glorious weekend on the west coast last year. We swam and kayaked and even sat outside at night.

Yeah we go all year round. Plenty of layers and superwarm sleeping bags and you'll be fine. Our favourite spot is comrie croft tonnes of stuff for the kids to do near by and on site. DS1 would happily spend his entire summer here.

Surprisingly it's not as cold as you might think... It's colder in May in my experience.

Should be ok if your DC aren't too young. Take think sleeping bags/blankets/warm pjs.

Also full waterproofs.

Woolly hats and torches, Hot water bottles, warm costs - but you could just as easily be in shorts and t shirts during the day.

Thanks everyone. Just so worried bout them being cold at nite. They r 2 and 4. Will hav them in middle in their bags n me n hubby either side of them for warmth. But I really think maybe taking duvets too wld b a good thing.n wld love pillows haha. They could wear a hat at nite if really freezing yeah. Just so worried about thm lol. We camped in may on islay n it was bloody freezing. Will need to look for a place with a play park too so they hav something to entertain themselves lol.

We ended up too hot in the night last September!
But yes extra duvets, pillows, mattresses/sleeping mats.

Also - you can always go home if it's too cold. Is be more worried about torrential rain TBH.

And yy May seems colder. The ground has warmed up throughout the 'summer' it's not frosty yet.

I also think September is a safer bet than May. In fact, we camped NY eve one year (albeit in southern England) and we were pretty toasty in our tent. I would say go for it but just include.Lots.of thermals, woolly hats and blankets and bear in mind it will be dark so much earlier than in the summer (always comes as a shock to me in the autumn).

We use SIMs on top of camp beds and I am hoping that helps as we're off the ground? Kids are 4 and 7 - we last camped in July but it was pretty cold even in the day - I put the kids in leggings and long sleeved tops under their jammies and was planning on making them wear a thin fleece top over their jammie tops - they were roasting and complaining and stripping layers off Grin
So I'm hoping the same approach will work this month!
Hoping to go to either loch ken or solway view - they both look great and not too far from home in case of disaster

Oh yes good shout re the darkness - in July most of the torches etc I'd packed went unused!
