Icey tek - squeeeeeee!

A 40l orange cube iceytek (and two gel packs, because if you're going to spend that much on a cool box what's another £25 on ice packs) is winging it's way to me as we speak!

I'm so excited!

It's also taken me 3 years to get to the point of actually buying one.

And yes, they're so worth it after I borrowed a friend's for a weekend and we had ice in our G&Ts on the second night, cold white wine and the kids got ice cream all weekend.

Congrats! I got one for my birthday a couple of years ago, it's amazing.

I'm rather jealous!

I'm just back from a few days camping with friends who have a proper fridge, which made storing food much easier, but we really prefer to camp places that don't do electric hook up so I've come home looking for alternatives...and I've discovered icey tek.

My husband would think I'd gone insane if I suggested spending so much on a cool box. But I really want one! I'm so so tempted to just order one, put it in the garage and then just produce it when we next go away. To be fair to him, we only camp once or twice a year for a couple of nights at a time, but we have 3 children and it would make it so much more enjoyable to have proper cold food.

Although having looked at the website they only seem to have white in the 25L size, and the postage is quite expensive. Hmm, decisions!!

I'm considering a 40l Orange one too?!?!
Originally wanted Mango but it's not available.

Vixo, have a chat with them as they have deliveries all the time. I'm just waiting for my orange lovely to arrive.

P, I've heard on the icey tek grapevine that they'll do special orders if you can wait...

I got a 40l black one last summer and have loved it so much! Cold milk at breakfast on the 10th day of your holiday is worth the price of the box! And amazingly I can put unchilled beers in it and they get cold in about 4hours! The thing is a miracle GrinGrin

I have emailed!

They are massive though. I've just measured out how big the 25L one is, and it will take up quite a bit of space for not all that much internal space. The 40l is huge! I definitely won't be able to sneak it into the car without him noticing!

I'm on the fence. We don't do extended camping trips as we're lucky enough to have a family house abroad that we can use for our 2 week summer holiday, so in reality we camp for a couple of weekends or long weekends a year. Mind you, I camped 2 nights with the children this week, we're doing 3 nights with friends in June, and then 2 or 3 nights at carfest in August...maybe I can justify it!!

I also really really want the cadac cooking thing our friends had - they did cooked breakfast for 10 of us in about 5 minutes. It was like magic!

Camping is an expensive business!!

we are caravanners so have a fridge and don't 'need' an Icey Tek although it sounds fab. Just wanted to tell vixo that i didn't think we needed a cadac either and it's the best thing ever

This sounds of interest, what is an Icey Tek? Just off to Google...

Vixo - waving. Cm here from RW. You cheat!! Would never have had you down as the type... But glad you got camping :)

Report

Hey CM! You mean I'm a cheat for being on here? Or because I'm contemplating some extortionate camping non-essentials?! I love mumsnet and spend waaaay too much time reading here - and searching for advice on all sorts of random stuff!

I've had an email back, and there are now other colours available as the shipment is due tomorrow...aaaagh, I can't decide what to do!

Having measured out how big the 25l one is I think it would take up a lot of space in our car (which is pretty big, but gets rather full of camping stuff!), and I'm quite sure that my husband would think I'd lost my mind when it turned up. But I do really like the idea of having a good cool box that will last 3 days so we can take decent food.

I need a shop so I can see one in the flesh and make a decision. It's not really something you can send back if it's not right!

inmyheadimthequeen I'm going to our local camping shops tomorrow to try and see a cadac and make up my mind about buying one. There are 5 of us, and the 3 small ones are getting bigger all the time (as they do!), so having something big and quick to cook on makes sense to me!

Vixo - no you are a cheat for contemplating buying poncy camping gear and not just living off tinned food and crisps like I do Wink

NoNoNoMYDoIt · 31/05/2015 22:58

Altho Vixo - this time I took two big frozen water bottles and some frozen gel packs in my coolbox and they stayed cold all 3 days and were still frozen on day 2. Kept milk cold and my fresh pineapple and mango didn't go fizzy. Grin but perhaps coolbox not cool enough Wink

The Icey tek is a cool box...just a very expensive one! Maybe if I tried harder our bog standard one would do the job just as well, but it certainly doesn't look as good Wink

I don't suppose anyone has a free delivery code (if they still do them)?

Just checking before I take the plunge and buy one Confused !

For anyone considering one of these amazing boxes of camping loveliness, may I suggest you do proper measuring before ordering.

Because a bright red 55l IceyTek is a lot bigger in the flesh than you could possibly imagine

Me three! I was about to order an orange 40L and the free delivery code I had when I ordered gel blocks last year has expired :(

I ordered one last night, paid for delivery but if I get a code through I'll pass it on Grin

I bought a 40ltr green one a few weeks back, but have still not got the gel packs delivered yet - we bought four of the big ones. Two to use and two to freeze so it'll stay cool for days as we go on extended camping trips. The whole Icey-tek endeavour has been eye-wateringly expensive so I hope it does what it says on the tin.

P.s I got a delivery code through with my box which I wanted to use on the gel packs. It didn't work so I had to pay another £12 delivery charge with them. I am about to phone Icey-tek Julia to see if I can get that refunded.

Answering machine...again. That's the third call I've made leaving my details for a return call in a week. Never heard a peep back.
I also asked to be put on the mailing list for when the gel packs came back into stock so I could buy some, but despite being assured I would be, I wasn't. Only knew they were available again because I went onto the website and checked myself.

So, so far I've had a delivery code that doesn't work, no promised email about gel packs and no return contact within a week. I have spent £194 to date...£24 of which has been on delivery. Gel packs haven't showed up and no email to track the order as promised on the payment confirmation.

Can't get a hold of anyone to discuss.

Customer service level: shite. Get some staff in Julia.

Pictish, I'm really surprised at that. They always seem so good. I had my email today to say the icey tek has been shipped with a tracking no.

We do at least two weeks in s France every year plus loads of weekends so this is definitely something we need! I can't wait for the weekend to try it out!

Pictish - try leaving a comment on the FB page? That does sound like rather excessive delivery costs! But it is worth it, my 40l Icey is my fave kitchen purchase Grin
