Hotel to break the journey to the Vendee

We'll be camping in the Vendee in the summer but because we've got quite young children, we're planning to do a hotel overnight on the way to and from Calais. Does anyone have any recommendations of where? Somewhere like Le Mans I guess? Can be flexible though for a nice place.

I booked Novotel Le Mans last week, never stayed there but reviews looked good and I need a secure car park as the car will be loaded to gunnels!

We were looking at that one too, mostly for the car park!

We stayed the Mercure in Le Mans last week - it was miserable! But reasonably comfortable and a good secure rear car park .

We are staying in the libre hotel in orbec (south of Rouen) one way, and a B and B in bernay the other way; however I think the B and B is now full.

We went to the formule 1 in Allençon. V basic but cheap, clean. A bit outside the surprisingly nice town.

We stayed overnight in the B&B hotel in Rouen. Cheap, comfortable but basic - good beds and shower and a mezzanine level with the kids' beds on. But really we arrived late, grabbed a pizza, went to bed. Got up, showered and were back on the road at 7am the next morning.

would recommend if that's your plan, for a more leisurely picturesque kind of stopover then it's perhaps not the thing Smile

The ibis styles in Bourges is fab- not sure if the location will work for your trip?
