Campsite near Nottingham to include a canvas phobic friend

Hi

Just thinking ahead to next year to distract myself from summer ending and we are a group of 5 families with 5 year old (plus a couple of younger siblings) looking for a site near Nottingham for a group trip.

The tricky part is one friend does not want to camp so we are looking for somewhere with a B&B/cottage for rent on site.

Any ideas? Teversal is top of the list so far as we could book the log cabin but it seems a bit regimented. Does anyone know of anywhere within about an hour of Nottingham that is a bit more circle of tents round a campfire - but with somewhere with home comforts on site? (She wasn't swayed with the idea of camper can hire)

Thanks Grin

Try the National Trust site at Clumber Park - they have camping pods for the non-camper. Basically a huge field with few facilities so not for the luxury seeker but everything is clean and adequate.

It is one of our quick weekend getaway places as well as the Norfolk and Suffolk coasts.

The good thing is that you get to use all of Clumber Park for free - gather you usually pay if not NT member.

Whenever we go we don't bother with the pass to get out of the gate, we never use our car, only bikes and walking.

I don't think you can have a campfire though - but they do allow groups.

Thanks, it's definitely on my to-do list already but she isn't keen on the pods. Looks like teversal is the winner - I hope it's not too rules and regs!

Have a look at Rivendale Holiday Park in Asbourne. Within an hour of Nottingham but also lots of Peak District stuff to see and do. They have a camping meadow where you can have campfires etc, plus various places to let eg lodge, b&b etc. Never been personally but gets a good review on uk campsite.

Ah, that looks like it might just do the trick madamy. It's big but seems a lot more relaxed. And it has a hot tub for hire Smile

Have you looked at Featherdown farms?
I won't camp but we are going to one f these next weekend. They are UK wide so must be one not too far from Notts.

Thanks. We did a week at a featherdown for my 40th this summer. Loved it but a bit pricey for a weekend with friends this trip and still too rustic for my phobic friend (we're hoping to convert her!)

I really recommend them - especially the one near Shrewsbury with a wood fired hot tub and swimming lake for a special birthday Smile
