Cool box recommendations anyone?

I am finally realising that a cool bag just doesn't work on a camping trip and I need a cool box that keeps things cool for more that 6 hrs. But there are tons to choose from!!!
Anyone got any recommendations? I don't ever use EHU so it doesn't need to plug in. Just keep Dd's milk cold!!! and maybe the odd crate of beer Wink

This thread is very old now so some of the suggestions may be outdated, but we’ve recently refreshed our best cooling boxes page with plenty of Mumsnetter-approved options for camping trips. We hope you find it helpful.

I've just returned from my first trip with my new Coleman Xtreme and thought it was excellent

I don't have an Icey Tek so can't compare, but my Coleman is great

Ok, fair enough, they are expensive.

Cool boxes, with a rigid double wall, are better than those useless padded bags. Freeze everything you take with you and put it round your beer. Take twice as many freezer packs as you need for the box and put one lot in the on site freezer if they have one. Keep alternating. Don't open the cooler more often than necessary or leave the lid open.

I also vote for the Coleman xtreme. It does keep stuff cold much longer than other cool boxes we have had. And has wheels and a handle which is useful.

Can I butt in and ask what size toolboxes people have? We need to get a decent on to replace a very cheap one which we got from Sainsburys or somewhere but I have no idea what size it is.

There are only 3 of us (me, DP and 3 year old DD) - what size will we need?

Thanks!

My IceyTek is 25l and is quite massive. Big enough for 3, easily.

Coleman Xtreme have a good reputation too - they seem to give sizes in quarts, whihc is 2 pints, so roughly a litre.

We generally only go camping for 3-4 days so I'm thinking the 25litre Xtreme could be the perfect one.Smile

That should do nicely.
It is worth pre-chilling the box, too.
The night before, fill your box with old plastic bottles of frozen water, then pack your box with as much frozen stuff as possible, and good chiller packs on top.

I told DH we needed an Icey Tek not easily swayed by MN at all, no not me... He bought a Coleman Extreme. Two 2l bottle full of frozen water kept it proper cold for 3 full days. V impressed.

He bought it online, paid something ludicrous like £8.99 for next day delivery. Was from some random website not very helpful
