Hmmm, mixed reviews TBH for me.

The location is great, and also the ability to have fires. The children liked the play area bit. I liked the car free part. But only 4x showers for every sex and we even had long queues to use the loos, not great when you have kids and they're desperate. They were quite militant about how you pitch, and we had problem neighbours which were dealt with but not until the next morning. Thankfully we had a pitch on the perimeter so didn't feel so hemmed in but I wouldn't revisit in school holidays- sorry.

Camping nazis. I wouldn't go again because I didn't like the pompous way they treat you and ran in as many tents as possible. Also if the weather is bad it's at least 30 mins drive from anywhere you can do stuff inside, and our boys were a bit little to just throw on the waterproofs and suck it up. That wouldn't be such an issue now though.

On the plus side the boys loved it and ds2 still asks when we can go back 3 years later. The pond with the rafts on was great and the pitch we ended up on at the edge (after we complained that the pitch they'd originally allocated us didn't leave enough space between the tents to safely have a fire) was really nice.

We had the wettest tent pitching we have ever experienced here.

Other than that - when the sun came out it was fabulous.

We only stayed the weekend and I can't remember the showers (I did shower honest).

We walked into Boot, got the little steam train to Ravenglass and then got the train back, which stops at the campsite.

Great fun.

Although reading that above, I might not have the right campsite! Possibly ours was Fishers Field!

Backs out of thread whistling nonchalantly!

We were there recently - we had a great time. Lovely site, although true about few showers. If you shower early or in the afternoon it is fine though. Kids loved the rafts in the pond and the adventure bit with the rope swings and I did like the no cars at tents bit - we were pitched near the track, so our car was parked beside our tent but in the parking bay.

The only thing I didn't like was the wardens - constantly wandering around, looking at you. Camping Nazi's sums it up perfectly!

Ignore that bit and you'll be fine! Lovely area too.

Yep agree with others. Obey the Camp Commandant or face their wrath.

They wander through the campsite issuing rules and warnings like "remember no noise after 11, don't be making any noise" and there are orders posted everywhere.

Showers are crap, nothing much else to do for miles around.

The beach at Ravensglass and the Ratty Arms has nice food.

But the location is lovely if you can stomach the staff attitudes.

Well thanks for replies!! We have had some lovely camping trips that have been a bit spoilt by really loud neighbours, still playing music and pissing about at 3.30am!! So am hoping that the curfew enforcers will stop this happening?? Sounds like it might be the other extreme though...! Still, I am a right girly swot and love a good rule so might be up my street!
