Hi, I'm looking to book a weekend camping for my DH, ds (6) and 2 dogs. My dog is 18 months old and has been camping before and the other dog we are fostering and is 11 years. We would love a site which allows campfires as we love sitting round the campfire drinking hot chocolate for ds and wine for us! Can anyone recommend a site within 2-3 hours of south east wales? We don't want to travel much further than that for a weekend but would look at other locations for a longer trip. Many thanks!

IME it's a rare site that doesnt take dogs rather than the other way round.
Your best bet would be to google "campsites that allow fires" and pick a few you fancy, then double check that they do allow dogs (also check that they will take two dogs per pitch. I have been to a couple where it's one dog only in peak season) :)

The campsite right next to Whitesands beach by St Davids definitely allows dogs, and although they make slight 'no fire' noises (as in, I have a vague feeling there's a notice along those lines), they seem perfectly happy with fires off the ground in a brazier/whatever thingy. At least, we had a fire there a couple of weeks back as did plenty of the other campers with no complaints.

Meredith farm
Camping near Ross on wye. Campfires encouraged (braziers provided) and dogs on leads good. Lovely campsite (so long as you are happy with an open fire and fairly basic facilities.

Just seen you have a 6 year old as well. Meredith farm has lambs (children can feed), pig, guinea pigs etc. great for children but probably why dogs need to be controlled.
