Hi all, planning two weeks camping with another family this August in vendee. 4 kids aged 4 and 6 ( three 4 year olds) . Was hoping for site walking distance from suitable beach and nice little town with some nice cafes, restaurants and shops. Can anyone recommend anywhere. Also what can we expect from the weather? We had fab hol together last year in Spain but I found it a bit too hot for dc. But we are beach , pool and water lovers! Thanks

We had a great holiday here:

It's not walking distance from the beach but I can really recommend it.

We had a fab holiday at Camping des Dunes at Bretignolles (with Matthews Holidays).

It is a small site right on the beach, with an indoor pool with slides as well as the outdoor pool. It is walkable to a few restaurants but you would need a car to go to the towns.

Best bit for your kids is you can walk to a small park where all the rides are "manually operated" - our older kids went and loved it but said it was best for families with younger children.

The beach is great. Not many British here, only 2 small tour operators from UK renting the mobile homes, but there are pitches for bringing your own stuff.

Oh, and weather will be cooler than Spain. sunshine is not guaranteed but your best chance for good weather is August. We drive to the Med coast for guaranteed sun :)

We had a nice holiday at camping Bel in la Tranche sur Mer, which should fulfil most of your criteria- walking distance to sandy beach and a nice little town. The site is quite a small one but we liked it. It's also walking distance to a nice big supermarket.

If you wanted a larger site with more extensive pool complex etc there seemed to be lots of others nearby.

Bretignolles is the nearest beach to La Garangeoire and is fab. The Dunes looks good but rather crammed together.
