I HATE PACKING

I have a big list

I have lots of bags

I have camping stuff strewn all over the house

I have two mad toddlers

I need to pack NOW

God, I am grumpy

i'm don't think i'll bother to unpack.

we can live on grass and nettles and wear scaggy clothes all week

oh yes i loathe packing since having small children. who unpack as we pack, or who add endless soft toys (each in a separate bag) to the packing pile.

want to go camping quite a bit in the next few weeks but can't face the packing. which is silly.

you need a separate packing room in your house, lockable so toddlers can't get in there, and pack things away in there and keep locking the door so it can't be unpacked by them. we don't have this at the moment but it really helps.

Wait til you have to unpack - that's worse! We got back from Scotland on Saturday and I'm still finding homes for things and putting clothes away and nagging DH to get back in the loft to put away the holdalls etc!

Is that helping? Probably not!

Packing expands to fit the time you've got.

Paint nails now, then get the kids into the car, start the engine, then pack.

We went camping last week and when dp came in from work (after ringing and asking me to run a bath for him and check id packed everything) I was in the FOULEST mood ranting saying "THIS is not my idea of Fun... remebering, finding packing, double checking searching, forgetting stuff" Raaahhhh I was soo soo mad but once it was done and we were there I was fine

I'm not going to unpack. ever. otherwise, what a waste of effort.

we have experimented with not unpacking between camping trips (apart from the obvious wet dirty stuff to be washed). you can get quite organised like that. with occasional regrettable mistakes which you find, mouldering, when you next go camping. and occasional happy moments of finding things lost for ages between trips too.

Hmm. Five hour drive FJ. Have one of those every year (not inlcuding stops) that one year turned into TEN hours. I'd got my mum to come down from Scotland to help me with the drive (dh abroad), large dog, baby and two other dds. When we eventually got there, I still had to unpack to get the bed linen out and the food and then cook tea...only saving grace was we weren't camping or there'd have been the f-ing tent too.

We are going on our first camping trip this year with DS (7yrs) and DD (2 years), not sure I want to now having read this thread!

Thinking of going to the New Forest - anyone reccomend a campsite there?

See call me weird but I quite like packing - I get my super comprehensive list out (I have 2, one for weekends and one for longer breaks!) and then work through it - If it's not on the list it's not coming in.

If I've forgotten something then sod it, we have to live without it (or find a camping shop on holiday )

It's the washing when we get back that I hate - airing sleeping bags that will not go back into their stuff sacks, grrrrr.
