We have just bought a second hand tent , so first off we need to have a practice and hope it has no holes or mould in it .....

We have booked for the end of July and are going to manor farm in seaton , has anyone been ? It looks really nice but I suppose they all do .

We are also looking for a site in the new forest for the end of may . So any ideas would be hugely appreciated . We have been camping but only a couple of times with the children and both times was the same site . Gwithian farm in cornwall if anyone is looking for a really lovely site down that way .

I am getting very excited about the whole thing , and trying very hard to not browse camping shops looking at pointless things to buy . But welcome again to any recommendations that you have all found .

We stayed at Red Shoot in the New Forest a couple of years ago. It's quite small with a shop, a little playground and a games room IIRC. But you go out the gate and you're in the middle of the forest so nice for exploring on foot. Also very handy for driving to the beach.

The two most memorable things about the site were (1) the pub at the entrance, which serves good homemade food, to eat in or take away. And nice beer. And (2) the underfloor heating in the showers - bliss!

I think we paid £25 per night the weekend after August bank holiday.

You're welcome. Have a nice time. I can highly recommend the takeaway food.

I have just had another look and it does look lovely but 36 pounds a night might be a bit steep , or am I being a tight arse and that's the going rate ?

Try Hollands Wood, 5 mins walk to a big stream all the kids and play in and 10 mins walk to the pubs in Brockenhurst, Also Avon Tyrrell is amazing. It is an outdoor activity centre so load of amazing things for children to do. Good facilities and it has a little shop and does take away food if needed. Not sure on prices but don't remember either being too expensive.

So its either next door to power station but cheap or a pretty spot with a fab pub for money money money ?

Or I could take the kids out of school and not go at half term , that's always a winner ;)

I am realising I am a fussy git , Holland wood was mentioned by a family member and I was put off by its size . It looks massive .

When I was a child I used to go wild camping a lot and I suppose I kind of want to that but with toilets and hot showers and a nice pub and a wee shop .

Not going to happen is it ?

Also it doesn't have to be in the new forest , I just thought it would be nice . The chilterns maybe ? Or dorset could work ?

Balls I have no idea and we are going in less than four weeks .

Ooooh OP I've stayed twice at Gwithian - isn't it amazing???!!! A nice pub opposite and the walk through the farmer's field to get down to the beautiful, huge, beach at night is lovely...

Ahhhh, memories...

Sorry, hijacked - as you were...

It is amazing , and the owners are lovely and I never felt ripped off in the shop which is always a bonus .

It is too far to drive for a week , and also it feels a bit sad to keep going back to the same place .

You don't have any recommendations for other sites do you ?

Long Meadow is across the road from Holland Woods, it's much smaller and the owners are lovely people. Additionally it has cattle grids and gates to the site so you aren't woken at 3am by a pony eating your cornflakes (which I understand is a potential hazard at Holland Woods Grin

It too opens directly onto the forest on a cycle path that takes you past several nice pubs or a stream with rope swings and the cycle hire keeps will deliver and collect on-site.

36 quid a night?! No, it's not worth that. Blimey!

Phew ! I thought I was being a scrooge .

That one looks good lovecat , more my size and style I think .

It's a tricky business isn't it ? And I better get my arse into gear otherwise I will get what I am bloody given at this rate :)

How about Riverside Lakes for a wilder style of camping not quite on the New Forest but close to that area - allows campfires.
