Campsite for campervan west of London, with access to central London by underground/train/bus?

Some friends are coming from France in a fortnight with their campervan and want to park up for a few days within easy reach of London so they can go in an out for the day with their three children (15, 13, 5).

Does anybody have any suggestions please?

I don't know about public transport but we've stayed in a few campsites near West London:

Laleham - near Chertsey, so no doubt there is a train to Waterloo.

Hurley Riverside - train from Maidenhead, I think.

Home farm - Not far from High Wycombe.

HTH.

Or there's a campsite in crystal palace that's meant to be good

Abbey wood is good but its east of London. You're in central London in 20mins via train. Station is 5 mins walk from campsite.

I used to live by the Crystal Palace campsite! It's Caravan Club so might be worth joining. It's right at the top of the hill on the edge of the park.

The number 3 bus connects you to Oxford Street, and Sydenham Hill station will take you into Victoria.

If the weather is good they can enjoy the park and there are a tonne of restaurants up at the Upper Norwood triangle (along with a decent supermarket).

Ah Wally, do you know anything about the emission control area? Will it affect them do you know? I saw it mentioned on the campsite's website and was wondering whether it affected foreign visitors.

Afaik motor homes and campervans are exempt from the emission zone charge as long as that's what it says on the v5, or I assume the foreign equivalent.

My vw campervan was down on the v5 as a diesel panel van and I changed the class for this reason. Had to send in photos of the interior.
