Can you recommend the perfect tent for us? Family of 5.

You can't put up a Monty? Gosh, suddenly I feel all rugged ... (although ours did bite me viciously last time we pitched it). You probably need a bell tent of some sort (will watch thread with interest as I always have room for a bit more Tent Envy).

I was going to suggest an Airbeam too. If you have the budget it might be a good bet.

I'm assuming inflatable tents have moved on since the 70s...

Bell tent .. one pole, can't go wrong, 10 minutes to pitch

I really want a Vango Airbeam tent as I think they will be simple to put up - no poles, you just peg it out then inflate the airbeams, they act as poles. Sadly they are vastly expensive and I can't afford one sad.

Apologies for the typo's, I've been on nightsblush

We bought the Quechua 4.2xl for similar reasons. We have a kampa Filey 6 which e adore but it takes too long to pitch.

There is 4 of us but both dses tend to sleep in mini pop uptents and me wnd dh sleep in the big one. They are so easy to put up, it's very satisfying. The head space isn't great but it's manageable.

We don't regret buying it at all, it's so much easier, perfect for weekends.

The bedroom pods are sealed from the bugs etc and the living area groundsheet is velcroed to the sides of the tent but no its not completly sealed.

Some sites charge extra for pup tents but its usually only a couple of pounds.

Thanks, but ahem, I most emphatically Do Not Want A Caravan! Shame on you! shock wink

Yes, I think they probably are - they're 13 and 10. To be honest, I'd be happy to doss in the pup tent with one of the dc if one wasn't happy with the idea, so it's definitely an option.

If you can't pitch a Montana 6 between you, maybe you should buy a ... (and it pains me to even think it) ... caravan.

My mother can pitch hers by herself! grin

How old are your children? Big enough for little pop up pup tents and a slightly bigger one for you?

I'd love a Hartford XL, but probably getting a Georgia 5. <not helpful> grin

I've just discovered that the quechua haven't got a sewn-in groundsheet. That makes it a no for me.

Any recommendations with a sewn in groundsheet appreciated

That's a good idea Ineedmore.

Do campsites charge much extra for a pup tent?

Ineedmorepatience Sat 09-Mar-13 18:24:22

If you go down the pop up route would you be prepared to have a pup tent for the older dc?

Just a thought because you could do a 4.2 and a pup tent and all get inside for bad weather.

We sometimes do our 4.1 and put one or both the Dd's in the pup. It takes around 30 mins to pitch both tents, blow up the beds and empty the car!!

Our big family tent takes around 2 hrs and we are exhausted at the end of it.

Good luck

We have a Monty 6 with a front awning and carpet. It's gorgeous and luxurious and we love it, however there is one problem - me and dh are shite at putting it up!

We thought we'd get better with experience but several trips later and several hours spent watching tips on youtube and we are still shite at putting it up. It takes us that long that we didn't go camping at all last year because we just couldn't face it blush

Soooo, we want to sell the Monty and all her lovely fancy bits, and buy an easy to put up tent that is still big enough for 5 of us (two adults, one teen, one preteen and one child).

Help!

What can you recommend?

I'd love a Quechua, but am worried that they wouldn't be big enough?

Thanks in advance for all replies.
