Camping

I never thought I would be asking this - EHU/heater?

Right, so, I'm about to order the 5m bell I have been threatening to get for years. The thing is, if I am going to spend all that money on a tent I would like to camp more often than we currently do. We have never had electric hook up before, and I might have been known to scoff at people camping with all their electrical mod cons.

I am now thinking that I will probably get a heater to get more use out of the tent. We are holding off buying the inner tent for now which means we will probably be colder at night. We have good SIMS and loads of warm stuff but we are often cold in our current, small, tent.

Has anybody got a heater they would recommend? Particularly anyone with a bell tent? What sort of heater should I be looking at, and is there an optimum EHU cable length? I can see myself tripping on it. I am definitely not getting a stove.

Most of the sites we go to don't have EHU so we will need to start looking into a different type of site too.

Can't offer advice but am watching with interest as I'd like to go EHU in the spring with a bit of heating in our bell. We have an inner which we now don't use as we didn't find it made much appreciable difference to heat.

If you have a search there are some threads on this, I think people recommended those oil filled radiators but don't quote me on this!

We use a little cheapy fan heater we got from Wickes. Works a treat. I would go long on the EHU. We bought a round, flat zipped bag and the overflow lives in there. I can see the point of an oil-filled rad though. Although heavy to carry. Wattage is the main thing to look at. Don't go crazy on a 3kW heater that trips out the electric every verse end. Stay at 2kW and under to be on the safe side.

I've got a 5m bell tent. I use a cheap heater which I got from amazon, its not a fan heater ...similar to this heater

It makes a big difference but ill only have it on when I'm there sat next to it, won't have it on in the night, etc as it scares me a bit.

We've got a 10m ehu lead. I think the camping and caravan club recommend a 20m one but we've always managed.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have a fan heater somewhere so I will check the wattage on that before I do anything else.

Cheap fan heaters, but as above check wattage.
Have you considered the log burners for bell tents?

I would love a log burner but we only have a tiny car, and mainly camp for weekends only, so it isn't really an option.

We use a fan heater atm but there are sites where we can't use it because requires too much power. UK sites are usually fine. Thinking about getting a lower output heater but that we could leave switched on for longer, maybe one of those bar heaters.

Having EHU does mean you have to book in advance and check the sites actually have hook up.

I saw some low wattage quartz heaters in The Range recently
