Tents: narrowed down to 2, which one do ya think?

And I spent a LOT of time narrowing down, so out of these two please PMSL!!!!!

(Know what you lot are like)

OK: DH loves the Gelert Vario 6, I'm after the Gelert Satellite 6 DLX.

We're selling our pro-action 6 man... there's nothing wrong with it at all, but we're going camping 3 times this year so it's worth getting the extra space, we only used it once and we don't want to end up selling this one after 1 use! Our main gripe with the Pro-action is that each bedroom has a door, therfore you wouldn't know what the kids are up to or who goes in there.

so \link{http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/products.asp?partno=80889\this is the Vario 6?}

Looks fine, bit like a Nissen hut but nice and easy to put up!

oooh \link{http://www.wildday.co.uk/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=2369\this one is very different!}

Do you prefer tunnel or dome tents? that seems to be the main difference, personally I prefer tunnel tents as you can stand up in the bedroom bit and they often have more windows to check out the morning weather! Grin

Oh and I can get them both the same price, so that's not an issue...

yes, Lucy, nissen hut.... just the description I was searching for, I kept being reminded of the cloches Dad used on his seeds when I was a kid! LOL! Wink

Have you seen them erect(!)? It's much easier to persuade your dh if he's standing in the one you really like!

Peachyclair · 30/04/2006 18:38

Only one they had was the VArio, which is why he took a shine... however the Satellite has excellent reviews on UKCampsite.

I am hoping he will bow to my superior camping knowledge Wink but I'm persuadable too at this stage. After all, until yesterday wasn't even going to replace the tent LOL!

Oh, that was the Vario sunncamp variety, which apparently is prone to leaks. Haven't seen either Gelerts

I have seen the vario 6 'up', loads of living room but to my eye seemed a bit 'wobbly' IYSWIM. People on UKcampsite like em tho!

I think the satelite looks more stable in wind

my dh works for gelert,hes the tradeshow organiser so he puts the tents up and down etc.hes just taken the dog for a walk but when he gets back i'll ask him which is better (the vario or the satellite,we had the satellite 6 up in our garden,its lovely and big!)

My vote goes to the Vario 6, but then we've just bought a Sunncamp Vario 9! We read up on various reviews of them and while there were some which said they were prone to leaking, there were far more that absolutely raved about them. We went to tent place near us and looked at loads of different types up. The Vario 9 was deffo "the one" for us.

Oh shame! We've just ditched our old frame tent, so the new tent will take up a lot less room. Good job really, we're normally full to the brim and that's with a 7 series BMW, roof box and trailer!! We don't do travelling light.

dh is back,he said the satellite 6 dlx is a damn sight better value for the money.he said make sure its the 2006 model if you get one.it should be beige and blue and not green.he said if its the lokon vario 6 or the mayon vario 6 they are shite cos the doors tend to rip on them.he said the best one to get really is the tahoma 6 as the have fixed inners so you dont get grass etc inside.hope this helps!!any more probs,just let me know and i'll ask him!

I think I have persuaded Dh, someone on UKcampsite said the satellite can blow away but tbh, if the weather were that bad we'd have to go home with ds1 anyhow.

Um, it looks like we might be getting the Tahoma now! DH is well up for it.... and I like it too. Marital breakdown avoided Wink.

looks like a nice tent, all you have to do now is choose your campsite!

Need any help? Grin

Ohhh like the look of the Tahoma! Much nicer than the other two IMHO.

( I get so much fun on these threads....our tent is gonna have to last us a good few years so all my tent buying drive has to be vicarious nowerdays Grin )

I know what you mean MB- this is going to have to last as Dh considering taking a pay cut, so we have been researching loads- not always a help as so much of the stuff you see is contradictory.

I did originally fancy the Vango Aspen, but Dh wanted the Vail and they didn't have SIG's.....

In was (am) very nearly tempted by a wee beauty on Outdoor Megastores sale range from Jammet last night, but have decided that although cheaper is Grin Grin (albeit by a fiver), black is a bad move as it'll get too hot to use in the peak of summer, and Sam feels the heat more than most- one of his sensory issues is a preference for cold baths!

Baby is \link{http://www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/acatalog/Outdoor_Megastore_Family_Dome_Range_28.html\here} ; scroll down to the Jamet Olympe

Isn't that tent, blue and green? it may not get as hot as you think, it's just that dark tents are better at keeping out the early morning sun - especially when camping in June!
