Finally decided on Les Valades for next years holiday but all the pitches with private toilets are full for the summer holidays! Can anyone recommend a similar site? I really like the idea of your own loo! Would consider driving further south.

We stayed on one of their private pitches a couple of years ago and while it is nice to have your own sink to wash veg & your own facilites we felt that we'd lost something by not being more communal iyswim. You are a bit isolated out in the top field and there was very little shade.

We may go next year for a few days on our travels south but onto one of their 'normal' pitches - with lots of Dutch people we hope. Smile

Thanks for that Lucycat - what did you think of the site overall? We're torn between Les Valades & Le Guyonniere in The Vendee. Decision, decisions!

We loved it - the area is lovely too up away from the river and the hordes of English but just 10 minutes drive down to the Dordogne. Monsieur & madame Berger are great, ultra helpful and friendly. There are lots of Dutch there but not as many as when we first went 4 years ago. The lake is a great alternative to the pool as you can swim in it out to the floating rafts or go in one of the free canoes, there is also a small man made beach that the kids can dig in. The sense of space is a key factor to make this site so special.
we have booked for next summer Grin

It sounds fab lucycat! Are they taking bookings for 2014 already? I'm shocked how booked up all the good sites are. A space on one of the deluxe pitches became available came the other day for this summer but I was too indecisive and it got booked! Out of curiosity which pitch/area would you choose on the campsite? TIA

No this summer (2013) - I wrote that message last year Grin I'd go for one of the ones up towards the top of the site if you want to be near reception / morning croissants etc or right down by the pool / lake if you prefer more shade. It is a fair walk though up to reception in the morning if you are down there - and hire a fridge they have a proper ice compartment not just a shelf Smile v useful for cheap ice creams from ELeclerc in Le Bugue.

Thanks Lucycat, thats really useful info which I will store away for next year. We've decided to go to the Vendee this year as we've been to The Dordogne many, many times. Do you know when Les Valades open their bookings for next year? Hope you have a lovely time!

We are heading South but the dd's love the site so much that we've relented and decided to use it as a stopover for a few nights.

Enjoy the Vendee Smile
