I love my Landman tripod! Havent used it over a campfire yet, just as a BBQ - but I think it would be very easy as you can move the grill up and down.

The rebel does look cool though, so sort of depends what you want..

That was of no help at all was it?! :o

That is good to read as after posting this last night I decided to buy the Landman as including postage it was 20 quid cheaper! So glad you like it :)

Ha Yellow, you didn't take much persuasion there! Grin Those look great. Not sure if the same make, but we once camped where one of the other parties had a stew going in a Dutch oven hanging from the tripod. Looked and smelled pretty amazing.

I have a rebel grill - it's great, but I think a tripod will be more flexible - and the charcoal pan on the rebel is v small - not v satisfactory as a BBQ. I'd like a tripod and a Dutch pot now!

And pie irons.

Yep, big pie iron fan too (have a lightweight Diablo, which I actually bought for use at home).

Yellow, I've got another suggestion for you now that you're into campfire cooking:
You know you want to (not really)

I think if I bought that marshmallow tree dh would actually leave me! :o he got a bit roly eyed about the tripod bbq although after more chat last night I think he gets it.

So talk to me about pie irons and why I need one (bearing in mind we're probably not going to be at campfire sites that often as dh is more of a hotel sites with more facilities that don't tend to allow them type of camper. Could you not get a similar kind of thing by wrapping stuff in foil and sticking it in the fire / on the grill?

A pie iron enables you to make toasted sandwiches over your campfire!

Sal - do use your Diablo on a campfire, or just on the stove? I have used mine on a stove, but am not sure the handle will last on a campfire.

No Yellow, in all seriousness, if you only occasionally do wilder camping, I wouldn't buy a pie iron. I love mine, but I grew up with it, so often use it at home, despite actually having an electric sandwich toaster. I find the Diablo so much easier to clean - when camping, most of the time I just wipe it clean, and then pop it in the dishwasher when home.

Blu, yes, I do use it on the campfire, but only really to the side and above colder coals. As it's so thin, it can burn quickly, but at least handle still fine. Just had a quick search, and it seems more people use it when camping here.

I think if you're going to eat your food there and then, foil probably makes more sense anyway as you can make everyone's at the same time, and bin the foil. No washing = good. To make a snack for walks etc though, this works well as everything is kept together.

I use one of these campfirecooker and dutch ovens. The campfire cooker is the best ever, fits over any fire, easy to control temperature and easy to clean. Im also daft on the dutch ovens and often use them at home in summer when its too hot to put my oven on.

Ive been eyeing one of those pie irons for a couple years now but Dh said we had too much shit kit as it was, well now Ive got my chuck wagon that is no longer an issue :o. I WILL be the proud owner of a pie iron soon :o

I bought after seeing one of a camp site a Allan's Fire Grill and it is the best piece of kit I own. beats a tripod hands down. Would go down this route any day

We have this www.campfirecookinggrill.co.uk/ and it's bloody brilliant. If we are at a site which only allow fires raised off the ground we just use it over a fire pit but otherwise it's over a proper fire. fits loads on it too.

After seeing the pioneer campfire grill and hillbilly's recommendation we bought one and had a chance to use it for the first time this weekend. We are very impressed. Very easy to carry, put up and use over a campfire. Good sized cooking area, easy to adjust height and especially like the way you can swing it out of the way of the fire. Brilliant. Highy recommend.

Glad it turned out well hz. We have had ours for 3 years now I think and it looks like it will last forever.
