In need of a new tent...

I normally love looking for a new tent, but am quite sad to be doing so this year. We had a Sunncamp Prism for the past few years, and it's by far the best tent I've ever had. Sadly, one of the big poles snapped when we were putting it up in a howling gale in Northumberland last 'summer' :o and as Sunncamp don't make it any more (for some unknown reason) it's apparently an unreplaceable part. Even our trusty Camping and General shop hasn't managed to splice it with anything that will fit :( We managed to camp for the rest of the summer with it splinted with gaffer tape, but that's not a permanent solution is it.

What we loved about the prism was:

Brew one huge bedroom (there are six of us, and we don't like having to crawl around in the middle of the night getting chilly when children have bad dreams or wet the bed)

Brew height. Really, really tall.

Brew strong. Apart from putting it up in a gale, it's been sturdy as anything when the other tents on site have been bent out of all recognition

Brew warm, with sewn in groundsheet

Brew lots of living space- as much as the sleeping area.

Brew light, with lots of windows

Brew cheap! despite having steel poles.

The only disadvantage to it was that it didn't have a porch, which we got round (in ok wind conditions) with a cheap awning from Argos.

Now, do I try to source another? Email Sunncamp and plead that they make them again? Or is there another tent that will tick all my boxes, because I'm all out of tent inspiration.

Ooooh I am loving your neatly ordered bullet point OP.

Mmm
[rodin's thinker]

Tricky innit.

A bell tent ticks most of your boxes apart from the windows and cheap points, although you can get bells with zigs and you can roll up the sides. Not really a window though is it.

I remember going into a sun camp prism and thinking 'wow how big is this inside'. What a shame they don't make them any more.

Have you looked at any of the tunnels with just a divider curtain between the bedrooms rather than sepatarate rooms iyswim.

What a shame you can,t fix it. Have you a local person who is good with metal, like I dunno a gate maker who could just make you a replacement pole?

I dunno- haven't come across anyone who I can imagine just rustling me up a pole.

I'd be up for a bell tent (apart from not sure if we'd all fit in it), but dh would have a fit if I spent so much money on a tent.

I emailed Sunncamp today. I expect they'll just ignore my email, but thought it was worth a try!

Have a look at tent-tents- the English arm of Obelink. We bought a Hypercamp Palamos from them last summer and they were fab. They have 'forrin' tents on there that might tick the boxes (or bullet points) Grin. I'm not very well up on next seasons tents yet Smile

Go to Millets/Blacks quick smart, they've gone in to administration!

I may have found one- with a prototype awning :o Please don't google it and buy it!
I'm going to phone Sunncamp just to nag them make sure that they're crazy definitely not making the Prism again, then I'll get it.

Sunncamp definitely aren't making this tent any more. I think they're crazy.
I'm tempted to buy up all the Prisms I can find and set up a Prism Shop :o

Yay! Have just bought the prism+awning :) Now I need to track down a tent carpet that will fit a 230 x 430 living area. Any ideas?

I know this is an old thread but I'm searching high and low for one of the sunncamp prism tents and having no luck (except for some fraudster that snaffled my money then did a runner!). So if anyone has one in good condition that they no longer use, I'd be keen to have a chat about buying it from them.
