I've read in various magazines that drinking green tea aids weight loss - has anyone found that to be true? Also the only green tea I've ever tasted was yuk - do they vary? Any particularly nice ones? Many thanks Smile

I think of there's any evidence at all it's only helpful to the equivalent of tiny amounts of calories.

I always liked the green tea & ginseng, with raspberry flavour (or something like that, it was years ago). Smelled like raspberries, tasted initially like dishwater but oddly pleasant.

If you don't like green tea it's not worth it.

Oh, and you should watch The Men Who Made Us Thin (& The Men Who Made Us Fat) on iPlayer.

Oh and magazines tout bollocks which only serves to sell shit to people to support their own interests.

I'm not convinced green tea aids weight loss. I've both put weight on and lost it drinking green tea. One side effect is green tea contains caffeine and because I'm sensitive to caffeine (it raises my blood pressure) I now only drink decaffeinated green tea.

I also read it helps with weight loss, so I'm drinking the odd cup of green tea, but barely let the bag touch the water, as it's otherwise too strong. I find peppermint tea and Pu Erh tea help me to curb cravings, and are more palatable.

Basically drinking any tea stops me picking up another frothy, sugary latte instead, so in that sense it helps. Wink

I have been drinking green tea regularly and it has aided my weight loss. Try lemon or mint flavours. U can add honey to green tea as honey also aids slimming

Dietitian here. A few small studies suggest that green tea extract may boost metabolism and help burn fat. This may be due to substances called catechins and caffeine having a fat-burning effect. However, a review of 18 studies showed that overall, green tea doesn't have a significant effect on weight. If weight loss was as simple as drinking some green tea, then we'd all be skinny minnies!
Here is a good overview of other health benefits of green tea

I have been drinking proper green tea [Long Jing loose tea topped up regularly throughout the day with hot water] for the 10 years and can vouch the weight loss claim is a load of old bollocks.
